Princeton University Press
Book and Periodical Publishing
Princeton University Press is a leading independent publisher of trade and scholarly books by the world's experts.
About us
Princeton University Press is an independent publisher with close connections, both formal and informal, to Princeton University. As such it has overlapping responsibilities to the University, the academic community, and the reading public. Our fundamental mission is to disseminate scholarship (through print and digital media) both within academia and to society at large. We select for publication only scholarship of the highest quality on all levels regardless of commercial viability: specialized monographs making an original contribution to knowledge within a subdiscipline; titles appealing to a broader range of scholars and professionals in a single discipline; interdisciplinary academic works intended for readers in more than one subject area; and works by scholars aimed at bringing the findings of a discipline to the larger, well-educated reading public. Some titles from all these categories are also eventually used in the classroom as supplemental course reading. We also publish texts specifically intended for student use at the graduate and undergraduate level. We seek to publish the innovative works of the greatest minds in academia, from the most respected senior scholar to the extraordinarily promising graduate student, in each of the disciplines in which we publish. The Press consciously acquires a collection of titles – a coherent ‘list’ of books – in each discipline, providing focus, continuity, and a basis for the development of future publications. Through the publication of works of scholarly significance, Princeton University Press fulfills part of the mission of Princeton University by furthering its fundamental commitment to the dissemination of knowledge.

By the turn of the new century, white working-class voters along the footprint of the hillbilly highway were increasingly falling under the sway of precisely the types of pseudo-populist Republican politicians who now array themselves so uniformly against President Biden’s industrial policy agenda. Might Bidenomics’ long overdue focus on the political consequences of the regional economic imbalances embedded in the country’s industrial past present a path forward for prizing such voters away from their right-wing tempters? If so, the impacts may be felt long past next year’s elections. Max Fraser is assistant professor of history at the University of Miami. A former journalist, he has written for the Nation and other publications. #elections #Biden #Trump #JDVance #Economics #Votes #HillbillyElegy

Pleased to report I've just completed recording the audiobook version of We Have Never Been Woke -- available for pre-order via Barnes & Noble, Inc.: https://lnkd.in/ezUkuUFp Many thanks to INDEXaudio, who oversaw the production of the audiobook on behalf of Princeton University Press: https://indexaudio.com My sound engineer, Merissa Czyz, was truly fantastic. She also does voice work herself (and is really well reviewed for that too!). So if you need someone to engineer OR narrate your book, I enthusiastically recommend Merissa: https://merissaczyz.com I was nervous at first about the prospect of reading the book -- I've done lots of podcasts and media interviews, but never anything quite this epic. I'm so glad that I did it. The work, I think, would've been pretty tricky for others to navigate. And, thanks to Merissa and the Index Audio team, it was also a pleasant experience. And a great way to get re-acquainted with the book, which I haven't read in some time now that it's through production. It's a good book! You can learn more, and pre-order a copy in whatever format you'd like (ebook, audio, hardcover), by following the relevant links here: https://lnkd.in/ehv5gNP9

Suzanne Nossel, head of PEN America has high praise for Liberalism As A Way of Life in a The New York Times "By the Book" interview. "Alexandre Lefebvre’s Liberalism as a Way of Life helped me to better understand the interplay between culture and liberal values that is at the heart of so much of my work. At a time when liberalism is under assault from multiple quarters in the U.S. and around the world, Lefebvre offers a rousing case that liberalism is not only the best political system, but also a spiritual touchstone that makes for a rewarding life, warm relationships and a thriving society." -Suzanne Nossel, New York Times

A topical and really thought-provoking HEDx episode where Noah Pickus of Duke University and Bryan Penprase of Soka University of America share lessons from 8 new global universities. Entrepreneurial audacity, intellectual ambition and adaptive leadership are the routes to reimagine 21st century global universities and break out of the inertia of everyone trying to be the same regardless of context. Some great insights for global university leaders seeking to reimagine what their university purpose can be at times of unprecedented pressure to change the model. Ideas shared from their wonderful book on The New Global Universities: reimagining education for the 21st century Princeton University Press

Author of THE CAREER ARTS: MAKING THE MOST OF COLLEGE, CREDENTIALS, AND CONNECTIONS - Princeton University Press, November 2023
My latest guest on #HigherEdSpotlight, Anthony Jack, burst onto the national scene when he published "The Privileged Poor" in 2019. Now this pioneering sociologist of higher education is again turning his gaze to the struggles low-income students face at elite colleges. His new book, “Class Dismissed: When Colleges Ignore Inequality and Students Pay the Price,” will be out on August 13 from Princeton University Press. Tony pays particular attention to how the Covid-19 pandemic amplified the external inequalities that affect the college experience of disadvantaged undergrads. In his blistering critique, he argues that the most selective universities, despite vast resources, often fail to support marginalized students. Tony contends that they prioritize performative diversity over substantive help, and offers specific suggestions for how they could reassess and improve their policies. Tony was one of my very first podcast guests when I launched “Lessons Earned” for Strada Education Network four years ago. Now he’s my first-ever repeat guest over two podcasts and 63 episodes. I’m so glad we were able to speak again about his provocative and illuminating new book. Elizabeth Currid-Halkett discusses “the aspirational class” and discusses how, through deft decisions about education, health, parenting, and retirement, they reproduce wealth and upward mobility, deepening the ever-wider class divide. With a rich narrative and extensive interviews and research, The Sum of Small Things illustrates how cultural capital leads to lifestyle shifts and examines what these changes will mean for everyone.
