🎉 The 56th annual #WalkforHunger has concluded, and what an incredible journey it has been! 🎉 A heartfelt congratulations to all our dedicated participants and anti-hunger advocates for taking critical steps to support the 1 in 5 families with children in our state currently facing food insecurity. Together, we've raised over $900k! But our mission continues! There's still time to keep fundraising and reach our goal of $1.3m. A massive thank you from the team at Project Bread to everyone who joined us at the Boston Common or walked their own path to end hunger. Your commitment is truly inspiring. Breaking the cycle of hunger
About us
Too many people across Massachusetts are worried about affording enough food. Project Bread works statewide to connect people and communities to programs that meet nutritional needs and alleviate household budgets. Our advocacy is driven by the real-time challenges of people experiencing food insecurity, so we can permanently break the cycle of hunger. - Provide immediate relief to those who are hungry today - Eradicate the systemic causes of hunger From community-based meal programs, to early childhood and school nutrition initiatives, to improved access to farm-to-table and local food resources, we approach hunger as a complex problem with multiple solutions that often work best in combination, and through cooperation and collaboration between communities and organizations.

Yesterday marked a special milestone as we celebrated the 10th anniversary of our #SummerEatsTour with Congressman Jim McGovern ! 🎉 We were excited to visit #SummerEatsMA meal sites in Worcester & Webster to connect families facing food insecurity & spotlight the vital food resources available. 🍉📚 #SummerEatsMA is here all summer long, all across Massachusetts to make sure kids enjoy nutritious meals while having fun in parks, libraries, pools, and beyond! Thank you to our partners USDA and DESE for joining us in celebrating a decade of making a difference!

#DYK? 1 in 4 families with children in Massachusetts face food insecurity. For many kids and teens, summer means no access to school meals. That’s where #SummerEatsMA comes in! This federally-funded nutrition program helps fill the gap by providing free, nutrition meals to children ages 18 and under –because we know that when children have reliable access to food during the summer they can return to school ready to learn and thrive. Help make Summer Eats accessible to all those in need! https://lnkd.in/eQwtwewH

Our team at Project Bread had an incredible week at the National Anti-Hunger Policy Conference with Food Research & Action Center! We joined over 1,000 advocates to push the boundaries of innovation in fighting hunger. From Capitol Hill meetings on the Farm Bill to insightful discussions on food insecurity challenges, every moment was about driving meaningful change. Together with Massachusetts Law Reform Institute, we co-hosted a meet-and-greet where Congressman Jim McGovern and policy experts delved into the Farm Bill's impact on Massachusetts. It was inspiring to see leaders and advocates unite to confront these critical issues head-on. Our leadership also had productive sessions with USDA, CMS advisors, and Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley, emphasizing our commitment to health equity and sustainable anti-hunger policies. These discussions underscored the urgent need for comprehensive solutions to ensure everyone has access to nutritious food.

It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Shoshana Pakciarz, a visionary leader whose impact on Project Bread and the fight against hunger was profound. Her leadership from the mid-80s to mid-90s elevated our mission, expanding the #WalkforHunger and spearheading initiatives like the WIC program in Massachusetts, which now supports over 116,000 families annually. Shoshana will always be remembered as a champion of our work to prevent and end hunger. Her dedication to making a lasting difference leaves an enduring legacy. https://lnkd.in/ez7kQDAH
