We equip communities in energy poverty with solar power and God's light. Join us!

About us

Solar Power for Good! Only 12% of the people living in developing countries have access to electricity. These underserved communities are without basic human necessities like preserving food and vaccines, powering sanitation, and having light in classrooms. Through the power of God’s love and the sun, we are on a mission to change that. With your support we install solar panels and bring renewable power to a community in need. And through every mission served we share a spiritual light through prayer and teaching that will stay with the community for good - long after we are gone. SonLight Power teams connect medical clinics, schools, orphanages, community centers and churches to a 30-year supply of electricity. The solar power produced by our collaborative projects make an immediate and lasting impact. Practically speaking, they can be game-changers for communities on the edge. SonLight Power has transformed tens of thousands of lives worldwide – including the many who serve with us. We invite you to join our cause.

Out of things to binge-watch this summer? Not anymore! This year marks the 10th anniversary of a memorable SonLight Power mission trip to Panama that had a profound impact — on both those served and those serving. Our friends at Boonrise (formerly Rebel Pilgrim) even created a documentary film about the experience. Grab the popcorn, snag a friend, and watch Powered by Light, now streaming free on Tubi: https://lnkd.in/gNQDeB5z #MovieNight #EnergyPoverty #LightTheWorld #SolarEnergyForGood

What does your lasting impact look like at SonLight Power? Something like this. 👇 Your support of SonLight Power makes a difference in the lives of children and families years after we install solar projects in off-the-grid communities. This is one such story. Juan Caceres recently made a road trip through Honduras when he made quite a discovery. Juan works in Honduras for Legacy Mission International, a nonprofit that has sought the advice of SonLight Power for designing a solar power system for their mission. During his travels, Juan came across the village of Los Horcones, population ~350. Horcones is small and remote, not the kind of place you find by chance. While traveling through the village, Juan spotted a sign on the side of a building. The sign had a logo that seemed oddly familiar to him. He stopped to take a closer look and noticed it was a SonLight Power sign!! After a solar installation, our teams regularly post a multilingual sign to help the local communities recall 1) who installed their system and 2) how to connect with us if there’s ever a question about their system. Turns out, Juan had stumbled across the same site where one of our mission teams had installed solar power six years ago at a school and medical clinic. The handwritten installation date and names of the SonLight Power team members have faded due to years of exposure to the sun. But thanks to you, the impact of solar in this remote village lives on. Juan took a photo of the entry gate into the school in case we would recognize the place. Look closer at the picture, and you’ll see two lights in the background (yellow arrows). They’re powered by the solar power system you installed!! 💡 But wait, there’s more. That entry gate is very familiar. It’s featured in a video documenting that 2018 trip with Cobblestone Community Church and Vida Abundante. (You can watch the 3-min video here: https://lnkd.in/gTTvpYfH) Only God could orchestrate an amazing story like this! 🙌 This is what the lasting impact you’re making looks like. 💚 Thanks to you, the lives of children and families in remote villages just like Horcones continue to be transformed by the hope of the Son/sun in their classrooms and clinics. #LastingImpact #EnergyPoverty #MakeADifference

Slow motion? Not here. 🏃 Our team moved extra fast to get racking and solar panels set up on the roof of His Eyes Clinic in Honduras so you could see it all in a matter of seconds. His Eyes Clinic provides optometry and medical care to adults and children who are otherwise unable to afford it. Practitioners at the clinic spread the love of Jesus with their patients. His Eyes trusted SonLight Power to install a new solar power system at the clinic to improve resiliency and defray utility expenses – ultimately enhancing patient care and multiplying your impact. #SolarEnergyForGood #EquipYourMission #SolarForHealthcare #SolarForEyeCare #TrustedPartner

Join us in celebrating a win-win-win for Cincinnati, SonLight Power, and our partners. We’re excited to announce we’ve been selected as a grant recipient of the Green Cincinnati Plan Seeds of Change Grant Program, an initiative led by the City of Cincinnati's Office of Environment and Sustainability. Funds from this grant will be applied toward a new SonLight Power solar project in the Cincinnati neighborhood of Price Hill to equip Horses on the Hill (part of BLOC Ministries), a unique urban equine therapy center offering equine-assisted activities for economically disadvantaged youth, families, abuse victims, and those recovering from addiction. 🐴 The site features a farm with a horse barn that serves 30 to 40 therapy clients each week, while hosting field trips for over 2,600 students from area schools. In addition to this latest grant, this SonLight Power solar project is made possible by support from the Johnson Investment Counsel Charitable Gift Fund and the Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden, which is also supplying solar panels for the project through its Community Solar Resiliency Program. More to come on this project in the coming months. Giddy up! #SolarEnergyForGood #PowerOfPartnership #SolarInCincinnati #LastingImpact

This week in July 2016: Cobblestone Community Church in Oxford, Ohio joined SonLight Power to visit three off-the-grid communities in Honduras. Two schools and a clinic received the gift of solar power. ☀️ Did you know? Fernando Amaya, a celebrated Honduran photographer, also teamed up to take stunning photos of the mission. His work speaks for itself. 📸 #SolarEnergyForGood #EquipYourMission #SolarPower #EnergyPoverty

Happy 4th. 🎆 We take a moment to reflect on the precious freedom we’ve been granted in the U.S. Freedom comes at a cost, and we’re grateful for those who’ve sacrificed so much while fighting for that freedom. We also remember that true freedom is found in Jesus. He’s the driving force behind SonLight Power and our mission to share that freedom through the power of the Son/sun. May you and yours celebrate Independence Day festivities and eternal freedom in Christ. #IndependenceDay #Happy4th #FreedomInChrist #SolarEnergyForGood

Impactful. Comprehensive. Whole. Back2Back Ministries works to provide trauma-informed care to orphans and families around the world. Recently, SonLight Power partnered yet again with Back2Back to outfit their largest campus in Monterrey, Mexico with solar power. 10 buildings. 10 Fronius USA inverters. 270 solar panels. 580 kilowatt hours of clean, renewable electricity generated daily. Yeah, it was a big install. But thanks to you and our amazing volunteers with SonLight Power and Utilicast, Back2Back’s Monterrey site now has a complete solar energy system. Precious resources once spent on electric bills can now go back to helping children, teens, and families in need. #SolarEnergyForGood #LetYourLightShine #EquipYourMission #PowerofPartnership

I am Spartan! Well, Jamie Laycock that is. Jamie is a longtime friend and SonLight Power supporter/volunteer. He competed in not one, but two Spartan races June 7-8 in Greater Cincinnati. In the Cincinnati Spartan Super 10K race, he finished 1st in his age division. Aroo! 💪🏆 If you’re not familiar, Spartan races are grueling challenges through mud, obstacles, and the oft dreaded burpees. SonLight Power executive director, Kevin Sasson, witnessed Jamie and other Spartans (including other friends of SonLight Power) scale walls, climb nets, and leap over fire to the finish line. Jamie finished right under his goal of 2 hours. Aroo! 😲 Not only does Jamie overcome obstacles as a Spartan, but he rises above challenges in the mission field as well. While he travels long distances to compete in these strenuous races, Jamie also selflessly gives his time and efforts with SonLight Power, installing solar panels to generate lasting impact in the places we serve. We’re so grateful for the support and friendship of Jamie and his wife. Aroo! #LetYourLightShine #SolarEnergyForGood #MakeADifference #SpartanRace #Unbreakable

Not your ordinary co-op. Nor co-op assignment. Colin Sorensen, SonLight Power Project Development Engineer and co-op from the University of Cincinnati, hopped on a flight after completing final exams this spring to join SonLight Power at our largest solar installation to date: Back2Back Ministries’ campus in Monterrey, Mexico. With deep faith, a call to engineering, and fluency in Spanish, Colin checks off all the boxes as the newest member of the SonLight Power team. He appreciates the unique opportunities offered by SonLight Power to venture to places near and far as the hands and feet of Jesus. His experience engaging with staff and families while installing solar power at Back2Back MX Monterrey impacted not only those around him, but himself as well. Ready to read more?
