Standard Metrics reposted this
h/t to the team at Aleph that posted this meme that’s making all of us laugh today at Standard Metrics. 😂 There’s a deeper insight here though: spreadsheets are incredibly powerful and flexible analytical tools. Some analysis and modeling will likely always be easiest and best in a spreadsheet-type tool. However, spreadsheets are not databases. Our approach at Standard Metrics with our VC/PE customers that rely heavily on spreadsheets: put data at users’ fingertips via our Excel plug-in. If there’s a use-case we can’t support in-app, they can perform exactly the analysis they need to with fresh, updating data pulled from a purpose-built time series database. Ultimately, data needs to live where it will be most impactful for customers — in a SaaS application, in a spreadsheet, in a data warehouse, etc. But the ideal isn’t a hard-coded value — it’s a data point that ties back to a true database / system of record.
