Thanks to Slow Factory 17tons.earth

<Fashion> Slow Factory Launches Garment to Garment Pilot Where "sustainability" falters, #circularity is pushing forward. We've talked before about the problems with "#sustainability" as a concept – about the dilution of its meaning and its appropriation by brands to greenwash their environmental (and moral) misdeeds. Circularity, though, means something concrete. Focusing on a product's #endoflife journey means planning for the future in a tangible, necessary way. The people at Slow Factory know this. And that's why they're launching a new, environmentally groundbreaking and socially equitable pilot project to rethink the industry's future. Read more about the program, the people involved, and the positive impact this could have on fashion via https://lnkd.in/gNAsD_Hs

'Every industry, from automotive to tech, has a design for disassembly segment as part of their supply chain, which is focused on taking existing items and upcycling them into new ones. This is what this program aims to create, a new skill training program that is focused on designing for reassembly and disassembly.’ - Celine Semaan, founder of Slow Factory     In a bid to reduce the fashion industry's environmental impact, Slow Factory launched a pilot program, 'Garment to Garment,' focusing on #circular design principles and upcycling within the fashion industry.     The initiative supports five female designers and encourages them to breathe new life into garment waste. This educational effort aligns with Slow Factory's mission to democratise education and design while contributing to climate #justice and human rights causes.    Find out more here: https://lnkd.in/edBNTid2

Communications Manager at inroads | Project Management, Communications, and Partnerships | Building collective power & shifting narratives 🌱

"Everything you make returns to the Earth as either food or poison." I read this today from Slow Factory. As communicators making words and messages about Palestine and Israel, how can we strive to create messages that return to feed our collective humanity instead of narratives that poison "others'" collective future? That is something that I have been thinking about a lot while seeing the spread of dehumanizing and "othering" messages about Palestinian and/or Israeli people everywhere. Let's demand #CeaseFireNow with words that will not return to poison others. Freedom, accountability, safety, and peace to thrive are shared rights. The leaders fueling division and apartheid don't have a monopoly on the people they rule and claim to represent, and their narratives do not serve us. Forget their made-up borders and narratives; we are all one. Let's act to stop the genocide of Palestinians in Gaza, continue calling for the ending of the apartheid and violent occupation of Palestine, the release of all hostages and detained civilians, and accountability & equity in the solutions for lasting peace. 🌸 HOW TO TAKE ACTION FOR #CeaseFireNow : - Join protests and demonstrations for Cease Fire. - Attend spaces to listen to local voices for liberation. - Call, write, and tag political leaders in your country to increase & and keep pressure. - Hold local spaces to support and build collective action in your community. - Create and replicate messages that feed our shared humanity and move us to take action.

    I help organizations design and implement sustainability strategy 🌱 | GreenBiz 24 Emerging Leader ☀️ | Green Buildings🏙️ | Energy Efficiency💡| Sustainability Consulting 👩🏾🏫 | Community Engagement 🫱🏽🫲🏼

It took a pandemic for me to realize I wasn’t happy with my career. 😅 Well, that’s not completely accurate. I loved working in a salon. Being surrounded by multidimensional, engaging, professional Black women everyday was just the inspiration and encouragement I needed in my early 20s. 💅🏾 However, I began to feel that something was missing. When the NYC lockdowns hit in March 2020, I suddenly had an abundance of time to consider my career trajectory. I realized that I wanted to make an impact at scale and feel more professionally fulfilled by honoring the interests I had as a child - science, environment, art. 🌿 I started by attending webinars hosted by different orgs in the energy and sustainability space. Urban Green Council, U.S. Green Building Council , Intersectional Environmentalist , Slow Factory and UN Environment Programme were some of the first groups I followed. I wanted to get a feel for the industry and see what areas I was most attracted to. 🏞️💡 Once I started I seeing trends in what I was drawn to - green buildings and cities, energy justice- I doubled down on the events and started networking. I met my now mentor in one of the breakout rooms from a webinar and we clicked. She then started forwarding opportunities based on my transferable skills and, after many applications and interviews, I landed my first sustainability job! 🙌🏾 If you’re considering a career change, joining the growing green industry, I think it’s totally worth it to start putting out feelers. This journey was certainly not as linear as this post will have you believe. I dealt with a LOT of conflicting feelings and limiting beliefs, but in hindset making the decision to shift to a more aligned position was exactly what I needed. 💖 👇🏾 Are you thinking about switching careers to join the sustainability field? What’s holding you back? 👇🏾If you’re already working in the field, what was your journey like?

There is no circular economy, no systems thinking that will make up for a lack of understanding of how human rights and climate change are inextricably linked. To learn more about the intersection of climate, justice, and human rights, I always recommend diving into the Slow Factory, a public, free-to-access platform with lectures, resources, and further reading on climate and collective liberation. Climate justice is for everybody, everywhere. #Climate #Environment #HumanRights
