THP provided structural design and building envelope consulting services for the University of Cincinnati's College of Law. The 107,000 SF renovation of existing space contains classrooms, offices, and seminar and private study rooms, as well as a large auditorium to house community events. The 10,000 SF addition features a two-story lobby atrium and a second-floor outdoor terrace. The addition features a two-story lobby atrium and a second-floor outdoor terrace. The project presented several unique structural challenges, such as integrating the new two-story addition into three sides of an existing building. The addition is isolated from the original structure by an expansion joint to avoid the need for upgrades to the existing building structure's lateral system. Collaborating with the design team daily and the early sharing of structural reinforcement concepts helped limit costly changes to the structure and maintain the project schedule. #THPLTD #StructuralEngineering #BuildingEnvelope

About us
THP is a client-focused, professional structural and architectural engineering consulting firm established in 1973. The firm specializes in large-scale, complex structural engineering, parking, restoration and building envelope. Projects designed by THP are located throughout the United States and abroad. The complexity of THP’s projects involves difficult sites, unique building geometry, challenging design coordination elements, multi-layered design teams led by international design architects, numerous phases, and fast-track schedules. Construction costs of THP’s more complex individual projects range from $60 million to $700 million. THP assesses and designs structures for institutions, governmental owners, corporate owners, developers, contractors and architectural clients. These projects are completed under delivery methods ranging from traditional competitive bidding to design-build to multi-phase, fast track construction, Construction Manager at Risk, and Integrated Project Delivery (IPD). THP principals and project managers closely monitor projects and have a reputation for adherence to the most demanding schedules. We strive to produce practical, buildable designs through the application of sound technical principles. Like the clients we serve, THP is committed to restraining construction costs.

We were honored to participate in People Working Cooperatively's (PWC) 2024 Repair Affair. PWC strengthens our communities by providing critical home repairs to help residents remain independent and healthy in their homes. Who better than having structural engineers build a new deck for a homeowner? We know this deck will last the test of time and provide the homeowner with ease of mind when using it. #THPLTD #RepairAffair #StructuralEngineer

Eli Anderson is a second-year student majoring in Architectural Engineering at the University of Cincinnati. We asked Eli why he chose engineering as a career, his perspective on working in the AEC industry, and what made his co-op at THP this past semester different than anywhere else. 🔗Link in comments #THPLTD
