Now well into the summer season, strong travel intentions, growth in outbound and continued recovery of inbound international travel are driving increased U.S. airport traffic. ⬅️ Flashback to the first five months of 2024: More than 360 million travelers passed through security checkpoints in U.S. airports January through May—including more than 10 million during Memorial Day weekend. Overseas inbound arrivals to the U.S. through May registered 14% below the same period in 2019, despite a 20% gain over the same period last year. Recovery has varied by region—the strongest rebound being from Central America with a 16% gain over the first five months of 2019. We continue to monitor changes here and across the global #traveleconomy. 💡 Learn more about our work: https://lnkd.in/d3uCPmX6

    President, Tourism Economics

One of the many reasons I'm grateful for Zeek Coleman. With permission, below is what he shared with the Tourism Economics team today. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Hi Team,   Adam asked me to consider sharing a paragraph or two on the significance of this holiday, to ensure it’s more than just a day off. I will gladly do that, but first…   Fun Fact: TE recently did an analysis on the economic impact of the National Juneteenth Museum. So far, our data has helped them raise $35 million dollars from the largest brands in the world. Check out the video on their site. It is such a privilege to say we helped with this. https://lnkd.in/e5Nxmdde   Some Thoughts:  Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19th, marks the day in 1865 when enslaved African Americans in Galveston, Texas, learned of their freedom, over two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued (can you imagine?!). This day represents the fulfillment of a long-delayed promise and the end of a deeply painful chapter in American history. Slavery, as a form of human trafficking, tore families apart and inflicted immense suffering on countless men, women, and children.   The significance of Juneteenth extends beyond its historical context. It is a testament to the strength and determination of those who fought against oppression and a reminder that without Americans banding together to end slavery, our country could not have progressed toward its ideals of freedom and equality. Although slavery has been abolished, the fight against human trafficking and inequality continues. Juneteenth encourages all Americans to unite against oppression and strive for a just society, honoring the resilience of those who endured such hardships and reinforcing what makes our country great: the unwavering pursuit of liberty and justice for all.   Happy Juneteenth y’all!
