Hurricane Hunter Satellites provide earlier, 2X more accurate hurricane forecasts & improve routine weather forecasts.

About us

We fight Climate Change from space! Our Hurricane Hunter Satellites leverage $200M and our NASA award-winning technology to deliver earlier, 2X more accurate hurricane forecasts and will improve all existing weather forecast models by providing high-resolution, three-dimensional wind data that is missing from existing prediction models. We also model wildfire clouds to making fighting them safer. In addition to hurricane and Polar Vortex wind data, our weather team helps clients mitigate risk and seize business opportunities through a range of custom weather solutions including apps, forecasting and analytical products. Weather impacts more than 20 industrial sectors and our custom solutions can help businesses predict, plan and profit from climate events and safeguard their assets.

  • The International Space Station Research & Development Conference is just around the corner. Our Chief Scientist, Andrew LePage will be presenting a paper about how we were able to leverage the ISS to develop our unique hurricane and 3D wind measurement techniques. The ISS is the best (and least expensive) resource for start-ups and space tech companies to develop and test new hardware in space. We are turning our research on ISS into a billion dollar weather enterprise that will help deliver early warnings and weather coverage to billions of people that live outside of vital weather radar and other weather collection infrastructure. The ISS is good for business and good for humanity. How did space weather interfere with SpaceX's attempt to raise the 20 Starlink satellites that were accidentally deployed into a lower orbit after last week's Falcon 9 rocket mishap? Some quick thoughts in the link below. Many people think of Starlink as a small, lightweight cubesat but that is not the case as they weigh around 570 pounds and are 36 ft when the solar panel is deployed. https://lnkd.in/euJZFxxC #smallsat #space #starlink #spaceweather

  • At its peak, Hurricane Beryl was a Cat 5. Driven by record-high ocean temperatures, Beryl's rapid strengthening did not "surprise" meteorologists, as this was predicted by most. It is stunning to have this fierce of a storm so early in the Atlantic Hurricane Season. After tearing through the Carribean and making landfall in Mexico, Hurricane Beryl hit Texas as a Cat 2. The danger is not just in the intense winds. The rain, storm surges and damage to infrastructure also put lives in jeopardy. Millions of people are without power in Texas. While advanced forecasts can reduce the human and economic toll, it does not solve the fundamental problem. Climate Change is real, and it will not go away because we shut our eyes, plug our ears and scream "nanny-nanny-boo-boo". The time to address the underlying reasons that are driving Climate Change is long overdue. https://lnkd.in/eQ-SddFQ

Beryl is reorganizing and predicted to intensify as it hits Texas. Infrastructure in Texas is so terribly mismanaged that the power grid couldn't handle a bit of chill that we in New England call "May". Why are we so terrible at prevention? Our mind set needs to change because the "New Normal" is anything but normal. Hardening and upgrading infrastructure needs to be a priority. It costs less than rebuilding. #hurricaneseason #hurricaneberyl #climatechange #space #smallsat

Fantastic visualization of NOAA’s Hurricane Hunter aircraft’s flightpath into #HurricaneBeryl. Exciting to think that by 2026, we will be able to overlay the observation swath collected by our Hurricane Hunter Satellites on top of this layer and will someday be able to compare 3D wind data collected by our sats with the aircraft observations. www.weathersats.com

✈️ Check out this visual of the NOAA Hurricane Hunters flying over the eye of Category 5 Hurricane #Beryl to gather data from the air. This supplements data collected from the oceans and satellites.
🌀 Beryl has weakened to Category 4 as it heads to Jamaica, bringing life-threatening winds and storm surges. 🤝 Monitoring and forecasting hurricanes is a massive team effort.

  • The ISS played an integral role in helping us develop, refine and validate our hurricane and 3D wind measuring technology. The ISS is a tremendous resource for start-ups to develop and test new hardware and technologies as well as for scientists to do research and develop breakthrough technologies. We need a replacement yesterday and need to reconsider simply dumping this engineering marvel straight into the ocean.

Thought provoking article about the future of the International Space Station National Laboratory by Rick Tumlinson. If you’re like me, you’re having an existential crisis at the thought of the ISS being unceremoniously dumped in the ocean. Here are some alternatives he outlined in the article: 1. The ISS be stripped of whatever of the billions of dollars of still-useful hardware and tech it has aboard. This can be auctioned to one of the several new commercial space station facilities, or even, if appropriate, transferred to NASA’s planned lunar orbiting “Gateway” facility. The U.S. government might even choose to use parts of this exercise as a way to put in place and create precedents for much-needed salvage laws that can then be applied to helping clean up low Earth orbit by creating paths that currently do not exist for space operators to transfer ownership of in-space assets to others. 2. The “tug” SpaceX is being contracted to build and operate be designed as an orbital tug rather than a single-use system. Such an important tool will prove to be invaluable over time, moving large payloads around in orbit once they are delivered by large space trucks like StarShip and Blue Origin’s New Glenn. Further, given plans to build massive orbital tanker farms and the sure-to-be growing number of private space stations now on the drawing boards, such an orbital tug will be an important safeguard when they face failures of their onboard systems. 3. Russia be provided the option to provide support to this effort, offering a chance for well-needed cooperation between our nations. If they choose to decouple their part of the station, what they do with it will be their decision. This will leave the original U.S. modules, once known as “Freedom,” for us to manage. 4. The facility be fitted with a basic kit of onboard thrusters, or its existing thruster system will be adapted to provide minimum control authority. This will prove to be a useful exercise for all involved, providing lessons useful for future large structures while drawing from existing knowledge developed by operators of large communication satellites. 5. The station be moved to a medium-high orbit, sealed, and declared a Universal Heritage Site. This new designation can also be applied to the Apollo, Russian Lunokhod, Chinese Chang’e and Indian Moon landing sites, as well as significant historical sites on Mars. If the world fails to do so, or if such a designation takes too long to implement, the U.S. can designate “Freedom” as a Federal National Heritage site. https://lnkd.in/eqnTFWEZ
