🌊 This #PlasticFreeJuly, join us in taking action to protect our oceans and marine life from plastic pollution! Here are three impactful programs you can get involved with: 1️⃣ Group Beach Cleanups: Sign Up Today Over 8 million tons of plastic are dumped into our oceans every year, killing countless species of wildlife and destroying ecosystems. Join us for a beach cleanup on Galveston Island! It's a fun and easy way to support Turtle Island Restoration Network and ocean conservation. Our beach cleanups are designed for groups of 10 or more and include a brief educational presentation on the impact of the collected trash. Together, we can advocate for sea turtles and all marine species threatened by pollution. 🌍💙 2️⃣ Monofilament Recycling: Recycle your fishing line Discarded fishing lines pose severe threats to wildlife due to entanglement and ingestion. With the help of dedicated volunteers, we manage almost 50% of fishing line collection tubes in Galveston County. The collected lines are shipped to Berkley for recycling into tackle boxes, line spools, and artificial reef structures. By installing containers on piers, we provide a safe disposal option and protect animals like birds, sea turtles, fish, and marine mammals. 🐢🐟 3️⃣ Hold On To Your Butt: Properly dispose of Cigarette Butts Cigarette butt litter is the most common form of litter found in beach cleanups and is hazardous to marine life. In partnership with Surfrider Foundation’s Galveston Chapter, we aim to reduce cigarette butt litter on Galveston Island by installing 50 butt cans across the island. The collected butts are recycled by TerraCycle. Cigarette butts contaminate seawater and are often ingested by birds and fish, causing severe harm. Let’s work together to keep our beaches, streets, and parks clean and safe for all! 🚭🌊 Join us in these initiatives to make a tangible difference for our oceans and marine life. Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier planet! 🌏💙 #SaveOurOceans #PlasticPollution #EcoFriendly #MarineConservation #PledgeOneLessPlastic

About us
Turtle Island Restoration Network is a global ocean conservation nonprofit with offices in California and Texas whose mission is to inspire and mobilize people around the world to protect marine biodiversity and the oceans that sustain all life on Earth. Our work is based on science, fueled by people who care, and effective at catalyzing long-lasting positive change that protects the likes of green sea turtles, whale sharks and steelhead trout. By working with people and communities we preserve and restore critical habitats like the redwood forested creek banks of California to the full-of-marine-life waters of the Galapagos Islands. We accomplish our mission through grassroots empowerment, consumer action, strategic litigation, hands-on restoration, environmental education, and by promoting sustainable local, national and international marine policies.

🌍✨ What a powerful week of action it’s been! Our recap video highlights the incredible momentum we’ve built during the #SummerOfHeat campaign in NYC. From standing strong outside fossil fuel insurers to our massive Friday march to Citibank's global headquarters, we’ve shown the world the strength of our collective voice! 📢✊ On Friday alone, over 1,000 passionate activists joined us as we marched through the streets, demanding Citibank cut ties with the fossil fuel industry that threatens our Gulf South communities. 🌊🔥 In a bold stand for climate justice, more than 60 brave individuals faced arrest, showing that we are unafraid to confront corporate power. 🚫🏦💥 Thank you to everyone who traveled from Texas, Louisiana, and beyond to join forces in this fight. Together, we’re not just raising awareness—we’re driving change and making it clear: we will not back down! 🌱💪 #TurtleIslandRestorationNetwork #ClimateJustice #GulfSouthRising #NYCProtest #CitibankFundsClimateChaos #SummerOfHeat
