There is a limit to what surveys can tell you about the developer experience. With better research and better tools, we can provide holistic, quantitative information that captures developer experience, analyzes engineering culture, and allows teams to use surveys less frequently and more impactfully. What's the one thing engineering leaders should focus on to maximize developer productivity in a tough economic climate? As we enter a period of cost-cutting across the tech industry, many companies are asking engineers to do more with less. But trying to spread engineers too thin is a surefire way to kill productivity. Instead, leaders need to ruthlessly prioritize the most important work and protect their engineers' ability to achieve flow state - long stretches of focused, uninterrupted coding time. The best engineering teams excel by doing the simple fundamentals well: prioritizing a few key projects, normalizing deep work time, using tools consistently across teams, and having clear processes for communication and project management. It's the role of leadership to provide this structure and clarity. When resources are abundant, any company can brute force productivity through hiring. But it's only in tough times that the great engineering cultures separate themselves from the rest. #CTO #developerproductivity #engineeringleadership

Research science says it typically takes over 23 minutes to recover from an interruption to deep work. Slack is incredibly powerful but can be a silent killer of productivity if not managed effectively. Leaders need to help their teams balance healthy collaboration with blocks of focus time. You can’t manage what you can’t see. Are engineers spending their focus time responding to pings? Are they getting pulled into long conversations? Are they at burnout risk because they can’t tune out and focus on delivering? With Uplevel, you’ll not only know — you’ll know exactly where to start improving. #developerproductivity #engineeringleadership #cto

🤔 97% of companies report accelerating digital transformation, yet only 1 in 3 succeed. Why is that? The key lies in identifying and measuring the right priorities tied to business outcomes. Simply tracking technical metrics misses the bigger picture of how engineering impacts the bottom line. The right engineering data can provide visibility into: ✅ Aligning technical priorities to key business drivers like faster time-to-market ✅ Adopting modern development practices that enable agility and scale ✅ Allocating developer time effectively towards high-value work By connecting engineering metrics to strategic goals, leaders can benchmark progress, adjust resources, and communicate wins to get buy-in. The businesses that succeed at digital transformation are those that measure what matters. Does your org have the right lens into developer productivity?

The feeling your engineers get when they sit down for a deep work block and that Slack ping comes in... Want to quantify the impact of interruptions on developer productivity? Ask about Uplevel's advanced Chat Interruptions model, which provides a unique (and uniquely accurate) picture of how your team is actually spending their time. #developerproductivity #deepwork #engineeringleadership

No one sets out to create a toxic engineering culture. But even with the best of intentions, common anti-patterns can build over time that erode developer trust and sabotage productivity. One of our favorites? The ad hoc request. 😱 Great engineering leaders protect the request process and make all non-urgent tickets go through the proper channels. When this doesn't happen, it sends the message that engineering time doesn't have value and sets a precedent that engineers can be interrupted at all times. In the long run, this is disruptive and drains developer focus. See if you agree with the 14 other anti-patterns on our list (link in comments) 👇 #engineeringculture #engineeringleadership #developerexperience

Successful engineering leaders have a lot to learn when they transition from managing code to managing people. Moving to leadership takes intentionality, as Michelle Salvado, MA-ODL, MBA, ACC explains. Watch the full video here: https://lnkd.in/gEz33nZm #engineeringleadership #devops #developerexperience

There's telemetry for engineering systems, and then there's telemetry for engineering teams. They're not the same. Code is standardized, more or less. But every team is unique — the metrics of a healthy team can look completely different from organization to organization. What's missing from most "productivity" conversations (and most productivity data) is context of what's actually happening within your organization. For effective teams, that holistic context is critical. Uplevel VP Product Christina Forney explains why: https://lnkd.in/gX9CFXgT #developerproductivity #engineeringperformance #engineeringleadership
