Thank you to the Orange County Veterans and Military Families Collaborative for hosting the Housing Our Heroes event and being our partner in bringing our veteran community together. In addition to enjoying the start of summer with the rest of the collaborative, we're thrilled to have met dozens of veterans seeking civilian employment and can't wait to help them through our U.S.VETS Career Development Initiative. Our Outside the Wire team continues their end of year community college dodgeball tour(nament) with stops at Cypress College and Santa Ana College. In between games, our U.S.VETS Career Development Initiative spoke with students about preparing for post-graduate life, including how we can help them land great careers after graduation or summer jobs to cover their seasonal BAH (Basic Housing Allowance) gap. These events are only made possible thanks to the incredible Veteran Resource Centers at these schools, whom we had the pleasure of working with through the past academic year. We're proud to have the LAPD as a reliable employer partner. Working together with Police Officer, Marine Veteran and Military Liaison Ryan White, our program placed nearly 200 veterans into fulfilling careers with the LAPD. From their downtown headquarters to precincts across the city, our veterans interested in law enforcement pursued their post-service passion with the help of our career coaching and work-related reimbursement services. Use in a sentence: Our U.S.VETS Patriotic Hall team attended its first Vetworking event to better serve our central and east Los Angeles veterans, as well as catch up with our nonprofit and employer partners including Cedars-Sinai. Thanks to Marine-owned Bastards Canteen, named after the 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, we are able to extend our program's outreach through these monthly local meetups in Downey and Temecula. This week, the UTA Foundation received the Vanguard Award at the 2nd Annual U.S.VETS Camo to Careers Luncheon recognizing the 20th anniversary of the Foundation and Project Impact, UTA's annual day of service. The UTA Foundation and U.S.VETS have a long history of partnership, celebrating volunteer events, holiday campaigns, and community gatherings at the West LA VA and Inglewood sites.
