How are we #ServingThoseWhoServe at Patriotic Hall? For veterans who recently secured permanent housing, our Aftercare program ensures they maintain independent living. Los Angeles County Veterans with a history of homelessness and recently transitioned into permanent housing can sign up for up to 12 months of personalized case management. This includes home visits and one-on-one sessions for developing independent living skills, such as budget management. Aftercare also provides connections to resources within U.S.VETS and our partners, including help with landlord-tenant relationships, work placement stability and medical or mental health services. Last year, our Aftercare program served 120 veterans with an 80% housing retention rate for at least 12 months. Now with our new Case Manager Regina Varesio, we're ready to continue our contributions to ending veteran homelessness in Los Angeles. Meet Art Alvarez, our Veteran Peer Outreach Specialist who was recently honored by the City of Santa Ana Council. As a Marine Combat Veteran, Art overcame his own struggles after service only to give back to his community and those who served as part of our Veteran Peer Outreach Program. Art is a living example of growth, opportunity and passion for what we do at U.S.VETS, and we are grateful that he is #ServingThoseWhoServed with us. A message from our Women Vets on Point Program Coordinator, Rocio Palmero, about our gratitude for Supervisors Hilda Solis and Lindsey Horvath. Thank you to Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors - LACountyBOS' Hilda L. Solis and Lindsey P. Horvath for recognizing our contributions to the women veteran community through our Women Vets on Point program. It's our honor to stand side-by-side with our partners at the Los Angeles County Department of Military & Veterans Affairs at their first annual Veteran Women Summit, a rally point for our collective mission to ensure no veteran faces difficulty when seeking services. We're proud of our Program Coordinator Rocio Palmero, as well as our therapists Marilyn Garza and Regina Varesio, for representing us today and sharing their expertise as veteran women with those in attendance. #ServingThoseWhoServed #HonorUSVETS #WomenVeterans #VeteranServices #LosAngelesVeterans

Serving those who served means combatting veteran loneliness. Compared to their male counterparts, veteran women experience significantly higher levels of loneliness and lower levels of social support, according to recent findings in the Southern California Veterans Study by the USC Suzanne Dworak-Peck School of Social Work's RAND-USC Epstein Family Foundation Center for Veterans Policy Research. Nearly two-thirds of all women surveyed felt they were socially isolated after service, despite being a part of the fastest growing veteran population. In 2017, we built our community-based answer to this crisis with Women Vets on Point, a program dedicated to connecting women veterans with vital resources and services, as well as a nationwide community of fellow servicemembers. This past year, we served over 180 veterans through 70 mental health and wellness group sessions, as well as brought the community together through dozens of virtual and in-person events ranging from Sip & Paints to luncheons and mixers. Meet our representatives for the Los Angeles County Department of Military & Veterans Affairs' Veteran Women's Summit later this week: 🌟 Rocio Palmero transformed our Women Vets on Point (WVOP) program and our connection to student veterans ever since she joined our organization in late 2020. Stepping up during the height of COVID to boost our digital outreach efforts, this proud Navy Veteran is an award-winning advocate for her fellow former servicemembers. 🚢 Regina Varesio, our new Aftercare Case Manager, is our former WVOP intern who found a meaningful connection to those who served while completing her Master of Social Work degree at USC. She is currently accepting new clients who recently secured permanent housing in Los Angeles and is already making an impact on our backlog of veterans seeking services. Fun fact: although she is the youngest women veteran on our staff, she held the highest ranking as a former Navy Surface Warfare Officer. 🎶 Marilyn Garza, our Associate Therapist for Women Vets on Point, is a proud Army Veteran who leads our Fun-ctional Friday group sessions. Formerly an intern on our Outside the Wire team, Marilyn is currently developing new individual and group therapy offerings for our women veteran community and is currently accepting new clients. She also is our resident in-office DJ, as her upbeat classical instrumental playlist always puts us in a great mood. Hear from our three veterans and meet them this Saturday at Patriotic Hall. Registration for this event is ending soon, so reserve your spot here before it's too late: bit.ly/4bkvmcq ✨ To learn more about our Women Vets on Point program, visit our website and sign up for our newsletter: #servingthosewhoserved #HonorUSVETS #womenveteransalliance #womenveterans

Thank you to the Orange County Veterans and Military Families Collaborative for hosting the Housing Our Heroes event and being our partner in bringing our veteran community together. In addition to enjoying the start of summer with the rest of the collaborative, we're thrilled to have met dozens of veterans seeking civilian employment and can't wait to help them through our U.S.VETS Career Development Initiative. It'll be a busy summer for Luis and our crew, and we look forward to showcasing their success stories on the main U.S.VETS page soon. #ServingThoseWhoServed #HonorUSVETS #VeteranEmployment
