An insider's look at what VISIT PHILADELPHIA does to market Greater Philadelphia as a leisure tourism destination.
About us
Mission: VISIT PHILADELPHIA® is our name and our mission. As the region’s official tourism marketing agency, we build Greater Philadelphia’s image, drive visitation and boost the economy. Who We Are: Recognizing that leisure tourism could be an important industry for the city and region, the City of Philadelphia, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and The Pew Charitable Trusts founded VISIT PHILADELPHIA as the Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation in 1996. The next year, we launched the first consumer campaign inviting people to visit the five-county region (Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia counties). Today, Greater Philadelphia welcomes 13.4 million more leisure travelers annually than it did in 1997. Successful campaigns include the current Come for Philadelphia. Stay for Philly; With Love, Philadelphia XOXO®; Philly’s More Fun When You Sleep Over®, the most successful post-9/11 hospitality recovery campaign in the U.S.; the groundbreaking Philadelphia – Get Your History Straight And Your Nightlife Gay®; and With Art Philadelphia®, the city’s first-ever coordinated and sustained visual arts marketing effort. Funding: A 501(c)3, VISIT PHILADELPHIA funding sources include Philadelphia County hotel tax, foundation grants, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania grants, partnerships and sponsorships. We are not a membership organization.

L.A. Takeover! Visit Philadelphia took to The City of Angels last week to host a media dinner at the annual NAHJ (National Association of Hispanic Journalists) convention in Hollywood. Reporters from across the country attended and had the opportunity to learn more about Philadelphia, while our team gained a deeper understanding of the issues and trends impacting this community today. Takeaways from the dinner and convention, including how to better reach younger Latino audiences and navigate the future of broadcast, will help inform our own storytelling and media outreach moving forward. #visitphilly #NAHJ2024

Visit Philadelphia was proud to sponsor this year's Social Media Day PHL, celebrating its 10-year anniversary as the most prominent gathering of communications professionals in the Philadelphia area. During the conference, Neil Frauenglass, our chief marketing officer, moderated a panel with Anthony Sorrentino, University of Pennsylvania; Kimberly McGlonn, Ph.D., Grant BLVD and Blk Ivy Thrift; and Sami Aziz, @southstreetsam. "Beyond the Like Button: Cultivating Civic Pride and Advocacy on Social Media" was an insightful discussion on how effective storytelling and impactful visuals can transform social media followers into passionate brand advocates. Key takeaways from the panel: - Authenticity Matters: Be genuine in your storytelling to connect deeply. - Audience First: Engage and protect your community, no matter the size. - Principled Responses: Stand firm on your beliefs and respond to negativity constructively. - Inclusive Narratives: Ensure your stories reflect and include the community you serve. The entire team learned so much from industry professionals and hopes to implement some of their learnings throughout the year. #SMDayPHL #VisitPhilly #comcastRJRForum

The inaugural TED Democracy Fireside Chat, organized by Visit Philadelphia and TED Conferences, took place last night at the National Constitution Center. Moderated by author and veteran TED speaker A.J. Jacobs the event featured a free, open-to-the-public conversation with NPR president and CEO Katherine Maher and Emmy-nominated producer, writer and public speaker Baratunde Thurston about democracy’s past, present and future in the United States. This is the first of three such Fireside Chats to take place in Philadelphia throughout 2024, setting the stage for a larger series of high-profile events exploring democracy as we approach the nation's 250th birthday in 2026. Thank you to our sponsors for making last night’s vision a reality: Bank of America, Comcast NBC Universal and Highmark Inc., alongside our audio-visual sponsor Advanced Staging Productions. #tedtalks #democracy #philadelphia

Sydney Milkman started her Visit Philadelphia journey as an intern in our Communications Department. Now, we're excited to announce she has joined the team full time as communications coordinator! Sydney recently graduated from Syracuse University’s Newhouse School of Public Communications with a bachelor's in Public Relations. She will assist on communications initiatives including our Visiting Journalists Program, among other public relations-related tasks. Plus, Sydney is all in when it comes to trying new foods, listening to country music, practicing yoga and hiking. We look forward to seeing her fulfill her dream of seeing our city shine! #visitphilly #newhire

Last week, Visit Philadelphia team members participated in a storytelling “bench crawl” through Old City, guided by Once Upon A Nation Storytellers and History Makers. We learned about pivotal figures, including women, African Americans and the Lenape people who shaped Philadelphia’s history, exploring sites like the Signers Garden, Independence Visitor Center and Carpenter’s Hall. Historic Philadelphia, Inc. hosts the “Benstitute” each spring, training storytellers to master the art of entertaining and captivating audiences of all ages. It was a fun and engaging experience for our team. Don’t forget to check out Visit Philadelphia’s very own sponsored bench in Franklin Square! #visitphilly #historicphiladelphia
