Use event-specific conversion tracking with Google Tag Manager

Last updated: 4 months ago

You can use tag management systems, like Google Tag Manager, to manage multiple tags added on your website in one place for conversion tracking.

When you use Google Tag Manager, you'll need to:

  • Choose event-specific conversions when setting up your conversions. Event-specific conversions help you track actions taken on your website after your ad has been displayed.

  • Access your Insight Tag conversion ID and partner ID from your LinkedIn Ads account.

Step 1: Before you set up conversion tracking

Before you can set up conversion tracking using Google Tag Manager, make sure to:

  1. Add your Insight Tag to your website

  2. Access and copy your conversion ID.

  3. Access and copy your partner ID

  4. Add the LinkedIn Insight Tag 2.0 to Google Tag Manager

Step 2: Set up event-specific conversion tracking with Google Tag Manager

To set up event-specific conversion tracking using Google Tag Manager:

  1. Sign in to Campaign Manager.

  2. If you need to switch accounts, click the account name in the upper-left corner of the page and select the correct account name from the dropdown.

  3. Click Analyze on the left menu, then click Conversion tracking.

  4. Click the Create Conversion button and select Online Conversion

    • If you’d like to edit an existing conversion, click the conversion name.
  5. Name your conversion. This name will only be visible in Campaign Manager.

  6. Define the rules of your conversion:

    • Choose a conversion behavior.
    • Optional: Set a value for your conversion.
    • Select the timeframe for when the conversion can be counted.
    • Choose an attribution model to specify how each of your ad interactions will be credited for a conversion.
  7. Click Next step and select campaigns to track conversions.

    • Conversions will only be tracked when attached to a campaign.
    • All campaigns in an account will be automatically associated with a conversion if:
      • You have exactly one active or inactive conversion already created.
      • That conversion is not yet added to one or more campaigns.
      • You are creating the first conversion for an account.
  8. Click Next step, then click Use a tag manager.

  9. In the Define your conversion tracking method section, select Event-specific

  10. Click Create.
