Exus Renewables North America has begun the repowering of the 139 MW Twin Ridges Wind Farm in Somerset County, Pennsylvania. The Twin Ridges repowering project involves replacing the nacelles and blades of the existing wind turbines while retaining the towers and foundations. The repowering will result in a 30% increase in energy generation for the project. “As the wind energy industry faces increasingly complex obstacles to growth, including a nearly 3 GW interconnection queue of renewable energy projects trying to connect to the grid, repowering has become a path to help meet clean energy goals,” said Jim Spencer, CEO of Exus Renewables North America. “Thanks to these upgrades, the Twin Ridges project will generate clean, reliable and renewable power – and millions in community investment – to the region for decades to come.” Exus Renewables will invest approximately $200 million in the project, creating 150 union construction jobs. It expects to inject over $7.35 million into the local economy through the procurement of materials and services from local suppliers and anticipates that over the 30-year life of the project, more than $100 million will be invested in the community through tax and landowner payments. Vestas-American Wind Technology, Inc. will supply American-made nacelles, hubs, blades, and tower adaptors for the project. #cleanenergy

As a business, an industry and a nation, we must place the continued development of the electrical system at the forefront of U.S. energy and economic policy. This is part of the message American Electric Power Interim CEO Ben Fowke shared as he testified before the Senate Committee on Energy & Natural Resources. We're navigating a landscape where demand is increasing at historic levels. AEP has requests for more than 100,000 MW of energy in our development queue, and most of that comes from large-load customers looking to build manufacturing plants and data centers that will help strengthen our local economies. One of the challenges to greenlighting these investments is the need for permitting reform to remove bottlenecks and get projects into construction. But many projects spend more time in regulatory hang-ups than they would take to build. To continue providing safe, reliable, and affordable power, we must advocate for flexibility and quicker decision-making by regulators alongside decisive action from policymakers. ICYMI, last week, PJM Interconnection, the electric grid operator, released its latest paper in its series on the energy transition. The paper does a terrific job of describing three scenarios and shows how state policy and corporate  decarbonization are absolutely achievable, albeit with big warning signs that could come along the way if new generation and transmission infrastructure don’t materialize. Highlights- 1️⃣ Dispatchable generation is needed less often, but is still critical to balancing the grid. The ramp is real. One scenario indicates 105 GW of ramp in 3 hours. How PJM will compensate and attract resources capable of that ramp on a reliable, day-to-day basis is key. 2️⃣ Longer duration storage solutions may be needed beyond the standard 4 hours today. Loss of load risk is concentrated across ~5 hours in the study, but 10 hour+ storage may be needed. This study was completed with old assumptions that have since shown risk is further extended in winter. 3️⃣ Neighboring regions will increasingly depend on each other. One scenario expects 35% more interchange of electrons between PJM and MISO. Look to Order 1920 implementation for building sufficient transmission to do that. Looking ahead, I’d like to see PJM release a report like this that leverages its latest resource adequacy reforms. My gut is the shift to marginal ELCC, inclusion of a longer weather history and other changes will give a more accurate picture of the likely future where 4-hour storage is useful, but not sufficient. Mainspring Energy’s dispatchable linear generator is capable of running on natural gas today and is also 100% hydrogen-ready. Our tech keeps the lights on and fits into the decarbonization pathways that many states in the region require. Georgia Power's rise to meet surging energy demands with ambitious new projects is a mixed tale of progress and contention. On the bright side, their approved proposal marks a milestone: 1,400 MW of new gas and oil-fired generation is poised to bolster the reliability of Georgia's energy grid amidst twofold customer growth. 🌱🔌 Yet, this step is not without its drawbacks. Environmental advocates voice their unease, spotlighting the plan's heavy lean on fossil fuels and looming rate hikes for consumers. 🏭💰 The balance, however, teeters towards innovation. The green light for three new units at Plant Yates and a 750 MW power purchase, carries a hefty $3 billion tab, yet Georgia Power's commitment to distributed energy resources and solar and battery technology pilots heralds a sustainable pivot. The North American Energy Markets Association is posting this RFP on behalf of our member MPUA. Introduction The Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission dba as Missouri Electric Commission (“MEC”) is issuing a Request for Proposals (“RFP”) associated with meeting forward capacity, energy, and planning reserve margin requirements of the MEC full requirements cities. MEC full requirement pools (MoPEP, MMMPEP, and SWMPEP) are comprised by over 50 Missouri municipal utility cities in the aggregate. MEC is a joint action agency with 70 municipal electric utility members in the state of Missouri, and has the authority to enter into contracts for power supply, transmission service, and other services necessary for the operation of an electric utility in order to obtain a diversified portfolio of cost-based, reliable resources on a long-term basis to meet its member’s total requirements. MEC members have various power supply contracts through MEC or directly with wholesale electric suppliers in the region. RFP Schedule Qualified power suppliers may submit proposals in accordance with the procedures and criteria below for up to 150 MW with certain limitations as described. The deadline for receipt of proposals is Monday, June 24th at 5 PM Central time. MEC will develop a short list based on an initial screening of responses received from this solicitation. It is expected by the end of July, MEC will initiate a second contact with selected respondents to request more detailed information that will assist in final evaluations from which contract negotiations will begin.
