Position Details

Position: Arts Assistant

Hiring Salary Range: $19.00 - $22.50 per hour DOE

Location: Arts & Culture Center, 20 Auburn Ave and /or Parks, Arts & Recreation, 910 Ninth Street SE, Auburn

Hours: Average 26 hours per week, 40-50 weeks per year

The employee performs a variety of duties related to art administration, public art, performing arts, ticket sales, special events and activity planning, and scheduling and supervision of cultural arts, special events, recreation programs and facilities.

Position requires flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends. Must be available to work all scheduled evenings and weekend program events, plus some weekday hours. Schedule is set one month to six weeks in advance, based on need and/or program schedules.

Note: This is a non-benefited position that performs its duties in support of the Parks, Arts, and Recreation Department.

Primary Duties

  • Coordinates with regular Arts, Theater, Special Event, and/or Marketing staff in the planning and oversight of related programs, program development, day of event duties as assigned, supervision of volunteers, facility and/or program.
  • Production, advance coordination, planning and preparation for art installations or events, performances, concerts and special events.
  • Gallery installations and de-installations of rotating art exhibits.
  • Assist in all building operations and programming at the Auburn Arts & Culture Center.
  • Demonstrate capability to successfully run all registration software and processes needed for building rentals, classes, or events.
  • Operate all needs of the Arts & Culture Center gift shop space, including but not limited to: operating a point of sale system to make sales, keep accurate inventory of items, create and maintain displays, organize backstock, wrap and box sold items for customers, and communicate with represented artists.
  • Assist with community outreach efforts and act as an advocate for arts programming, events, and facilities.


Minimum Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Must be able to work evenings and weekends, as well as mid-week hours.
  • Must be able to pass a background check.
  • Must possess a valid, current state driver's license at the time of appointment.
  • Basic computer skills and office equipment.
  • Ability to operate a ladder, small tools, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Previous experience in at least three of the following required: retail cashiering, accounting, customer service, stage, production or event management, project planning and administrative assistance and staff or shift management supervision.


PREFERRED QUALIFICAITONS

  • Experience and/or education in arts disciplines, including but not limited to visual arts, arts administration, arts education, art galleries, art museums, exhibition installation, performing arts, literary arts, etc.
  • Staging, theatrical production and/or equipment knowledge very helpful.
