Salary:%2448,958 - %2454,782Position Grade:12GDepartment: City Justice CenterJob Type: Full-Time (Permanent)Examination Number:EX1084Location: Downtown - St. Louis, MOIncumbents in this position are responsible for supervising correctional officers and performing correctional officer duties at the St. Louis City Justice Center (CJC).Essential Functions and Responsibilities:%3Co:p%3E ?Plans, organizes, assigns and directs the work activities of subordinate staff to realize the unit%26rsquo;s work goals and to ensure the consistent application of unit and/or technical policies, procedures and guidelines. ?Confers with and counsels subordinate staff to exchange information and/or explain work policies, procedures and guidelines; and identify work-related problems, problem characteristics, impact and formulate possible solutions. ?Reviews and compares work performance and/or products of subordinate staff with established standards to determine employee production levels, training needs and to determine for recommendation to agency management appropriate personnel actions such as promotions, disciplinary actions, status changes, separations and grievance dispositions. ?Trains subordinate staff in the work principles, policies and or procedures to maintain and/or improve the production levels of employees in accordance with established work performance standards. ?Completes administrative reports and institution forms. ?Supervises shift activities and personnel in the Shift Supervisor%26rsquo;s absence. ?Conducts searches of detainees, visitors, cells and other areas to discover contraband, safety concerns and damage. ?Supervises and observes detainee activities and movements to enforce institution rules and regulations and maintain order. Conducts detainee counts and roll calls. ?Operates manual and electronic security equipment. ?Participates in on-going training. ?Completes activity logs, incident reports and other institution forms ?Escorts detainees outside the perimeter of the facility and on work details. May transport detainees. ?Intervenes in disputes and altercations between detainees. Intervenes in disputes between staff and detainees. ?Supervises sanitation, serving meals, laundry inventory, supplies and other housekeeping functions. ?Controls the distribution of institutional clothes, personal hygiene items, medications, caustic/flammable substances, tools and equipment to detainees. ?May serve as safety officer.
