Director Of Risk

What Will You Do?

Director of Risk will be directing the strategy of the corporate risk and insurance program and developing it based on growth of the company. This position will determine the best program structure for lines of coverage related to auto liability, general liability, workers’ compensation, commercial property, stock throughput and cyber through a combination of retention, commercial insurance, captives, and other strategies developed in partnership with internal stakeholders and brokers.

  • Strategy and Planning: Research, evaluate and develop strategy regarding current trends in risk management and loss control unilizing the most recent and industry recognized standards/best practices. Identify and analyze potential risk factors and impact of exposures when both current business and potential new business and make appropriate recommendations to mitigate risk.
  • Insurance Program Management: Manage the property and casualty insurance programs, conduct cost/benefit analysis of program alternatives, and evaluate adequacy of limits and appropriate of retentions. Oversight of the annual property and casualty renual process by working with brokers and internal clients to ensure accurate and updated exposures are provided the markets.
  • Claims Management: Oversight of insurance claims management process. Partner with third party administrator, insurers, legal and internal claims team on claim matters and establish and sustain formalized claims service standards.
  • Communication: Provide consultation and technical advice on insurance and risk management issues to corporate and business unit management. Prepare departmental reports to management.
  • Make employment decisions and/or recommendations on hiring, improvement plans, transfers, promotions, corrective actions, terminations, pay adjustments, etc.
  • Coordinate and manage the work of employees by directing members of the team to meet the area’s goals. Audit regularly to ensure standard operating procedures are being adhered to.
  • Manage employee performance and assist employees in making improvements to their performance through coaching, mentoring, and administering performance reviews. Recommend, plan and/or implement employee training and skill development activities.
  • Audit, maintain and ensure employee time-keeping and absentee records are accurate.
  • Communicate company and departmental issues and goals and facilitate employee growth and development through weekly team meetings, regular individual employee meetings, coaching, training, and company-offered learning opportunities.
  • Manage resources to optimize equipment, facilities, employees, methods and materials.

What Do You Need?

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Insurance, Law, Business, or equivalent experience, Required
  • 5 years of experience in risk management or insurance, Required
  • 3 years’ experience building, leading, mentoring, training, and developing teams, Preferred
  • Risk Management Designation Preferred (ARM, CPCU, Preferred)
  • Risk Management Information Systems (RMIS)
  • Strong attention to detail
