Mechanical Engineering Manager
We are a leading Packaging Machinery & Automation company based in Smyrna, GA, specializing in the design and development of high-speed, automated packaging equipment. As we continue to expand, we are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Mechanical Engineering Manager to join our team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to lead a dynamic team, shape the design and development process, and contribute to the success of our cutting-edge packaging machinery projects.
Responsibilities
Project Leadership:
Lead the design of high-speed, automated packaging machinery, overseeing mechanical layout, component sourcing, and BOM generation.
Collaborate with project managers, manufacturing, supply chain, and electrical engineers to ensure projects meet specifications and are completed on time.
Team Management
Set standards for the team, assign projects, and establish priorities.
Drive development projects by directing and influencing cross-functional teams.
Manage subcontractors, ensuring compliance with design requirements and project timelines.
Customer Relations
Establish relationships with customer-facing organizations, vendors, and suppliers.
Understand customer's mechanical specifications and needs for packaging operations.
Support Technical Sales managers on platform production projects.
Technical Expertise
Conduct root cause analysis, diagnostics, and troubleshoot equipment.
Provide cost-effective solutions while maintaining the integrity of the design.
Stay abreast of industry standards, including ASME Y14.5 and GD&T.
Operational Excellence
Develop and maintain budgets, schedules, education, and training programs.
Ensure a safe and positive work environment for the team.
Provide machine production and installation support.
Communication
Respond to inquiries, troubleshoot issues, and provide studies and estimates.
Maintain internal relationships with fellow employees and external relationships with customers and suppliers.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program.
5+ years of engineering experience, preferably working on high-speed, automated machinery.
Experience in organizational change management.
Proficiency in ASME Y14.5 and GD&T.
Experience in a high-mix, low-volume manufacturing environment.
Packaging Machinery Equipment experience is a plus.
Additional Licensure Or Certification May Be Required.
Excellent problem-solving and analytical abilities.
Practical experience with CAD software, PLM systems, and engineering change management.
Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills.
Excellent Motivational Skills And Multitasking Abilities.
Ability to travel 10-15%, including international travel to our sister plant in France.
