Summary

McLaren Proton Therapy Center (MPTC) at McLaren Flint seeks an energetic and enthusiastic physicist to join a dynamic physics team in a growing center. The position is part of a core team of 5 physicists primarily responsible for supporting proton therapy activities in the Flint center. The salary compensation will be based on experience. This will be an excellent opportunity for a current graduate from a residency position or an experienced physicist looking to advance their career.

The Team

The successful candidate will join a team of four physicists, led by Chief Physicist Dr. Bijan Arjomandy, six dosimetrists, and ten supporting engineers.

The physics team collaborates in all areas of patient care and technical duties and works closely with the engineering team to implement new technologies. The new team member would have immediate opportunities to contribute significantly to physics duties and work closely with engineers and dosimetrists to support clinical activities.

Technologies

The MPTC has a synchrotron proton machine that delivers beams up to 330 MeV. The center has two half gantries with integrated CBCT for patient treatment. The third treatment room will have two upright positions Leo chairs and two vertical CT scanners for patient planning and positional verifications. The cancer center also has two Varian TrueBeams, two Phillips CT Simulators, and a GammaMed Plus HDR unit.

The RayStation treatment planning will be used for proton dose calculation. The cancer center uses Varian Eclipse treatment planning for photon planning and Aria oncology information system for all Karmanos network sites.

Essential Responsibilities

  • Perform proton machine QA based on AAPM TG 224.
  • Collaborate with clinical and medical staff on simulation and treatment planning.
  • Provide ongoing oversight of the quality and safety of patient treatment delivery.
  • Participate in departmental quality assurance and continuous quality improvement programs.
  • Participate in clinical research and protocol efforts.
  • Collaborate with engineers to implement/improve new technologies.

Requirements

  • M.S. or Ph.D. degree in medical physics or related discipline.
  • Board Certified or eligible for certification in therapeutic medical physics from the American Board of Radiology (ABR) or equivalent certification.
  • Two or more years of prior work experience as a Medical Physicist or Medical Physics Resident in a full-service radiation therapy center.
