Sr. Linux/AIX Systems Engineer

Background
This position is for a Senior Linux/AIX Systems Engineer assignment to FEPOC Baseline Operations, as well as 2024SOW028 CCTI Support project.
The scope of work is day to day management and administration of Linux / VMware servers and IBM AIX servers.
Description
The work involves hands on technical support and systems engineering activities, testing and validating systems, working closely with the Project Management Office and Enterprise IT (EIT) Service Delivery Team from the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) located in Washington, DC, and Chicago. This project includes infrastructure-related work that will leverage an SDLC appropriate for these types of projects (requirements analysis, design, installation, testing, and configuration of H/W and S/W components).
Span of responsibility covers large, highly complex systems and projects. This role acts in the capacity of a Technical Subject Matter Expert (SME) on small- to medium-size technology delivery programs and helps to ensure that recovery time objectives (RTO) are delivered on time, on budget and with quality.

Required Experience/Skills
- 7+ years of IT experience working to support and enhance infrastructure (including DR) capabilities within an organization.
- 5+ years of experience as a RedHat Linux/VMware Administrator in an enterprise environment
- 5+ years of experience in systems engineering and technical expertise in the planning, design, and implementation of high availability (HACMP) AIX, PowerVM and VIO systems.
- Manage PowerHA and PowerVM systems and experience in IBM LPM.
- Develop Ansible scripts for automation and monitoring of Linux Systems
- Perform senior-level Linux/VMware System administration including troubleshooting, fault isolation, system tuning, software installation, and maintenance.
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.x/7.x installation on physical Blade and VMware ESXi 7.x Virtual Environment.
- Install and configure VMware ESX server on Dell and HP server hardware.
- Have a solid understanding of SAN's and the interaction with virtual environments.
- Ability to partition disks, create logical volumes, create file systems, and mount file systems in Linux environments.
- Read, modify, and create shell scripts.
- VMware and ESXi (7.x or higher) configuration and management experience.
- Manage operating system updates, patches, and configuration changes for production servers (AIX and Linux).
- Demonstrated ability to manage infrastructure-related projects including installation of hardware and software solutions (for mainframe, distributed servers, storage, middleware, and networking)
- Knowledge of and experience in managing DR environment/configuration projects and/or other data center operations projects.
- Health Care Industry experience.
- Good understanding of data warehouses running in AIX/ DB2 environments with Cognos as the BI reporting tool.
- Good understanding of Tivoli System Automation for Multiplatforms
- Good understanding of IBM Spectrum Protect (TSM)
- Preferred to have IBM Spectrum scale experience (GPFS)
- Excellent knowledge of MS Office tool set – MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project and MS Visio.
- Experience in developing plans for and executing on major environment implementations that include detailed steps and activities with identified ownership and execution timing.
- Understanding of or experience with Service Level Measurements with contractual obligations and their application to infrastructure projects
- Responsible for the installation and maintenance of the operating system and application server configurations on the AIX and Linux servers, including virtualization management.
- Assists Database Administrators with AIX/Linux operating system configurations related to database subsystems.
- Utilizes strong troubleshooting capabilities to diagnose and resolve problems.
- Monitors and manages storage, network, and security in the assigned environment in conjunction with vendor recommendations and customer requirements.
- Ensures proper procedures are followed to introduce changes and fixes into the operating environment in order to ensure the lowest possible error rate.
- Proactively monitors software maintenance levels compared to the vendor published software stack to ensure optimization and corrective fixes are applied.
- Operational support in the planning, design, replication, and synchronization of secure, high-availability systems and applications.
- Develops, updates, and maintains operations manuals, inventories, and written procedures relative to installing, maintaining, and using Operating Systems and subsystems software.
