The Role

In this role, you will oversee and manage the operations, transportation, and initiatives relating to Moderna’s North America in country 3PLs to ensure efficient and effective downstream warehousing and transportation in line with regulations (GDP/GMP/Cold Chain/Trade/Security). This role involves strategic planning, process improvement, team leadership, responding to business/customer needs and collaboration with other departments to fulfill distribution and logistics requirements.

Here’s What You’ll Do

  • Ensure an efficient material flow within and from Moderna’s North America last mile 3PLs
  • Independently own, optimize and be the steward for logistics processes within your responsibility
  • Coordinate logistics operations (transport, customs and warehousing) – this may require occasional evening and weekend work
  • Ensure processes are adherent to Health Authority requirements and guidelines, such as Good Distribution and Storage Practices, based on commercial demands and product portfolio
  • Optimize the cost to serve and ensures efficient management of logistics and distribution related activities
  • Work closely with key stakeholders such as Commercial, Supply Chain Planning and Materials, External Manufacturing, Logistics Engineering, Digital, Quality, and third parties (3PLs, packaging providers, carriers, etc.) to ensure business, customer and compliance requirements are met in distribution and logistics processes
  • Support technical transfer of Distribution and Cold Chain operations at CMO and 3PL sites including the handling, storage, and shipping of Moderna products
  • Support the business with ad-hoc tasks and projects as needed to meet business requirements.
  • Support GDP compliant end to end shipping concepts: handling of goods, shipping validation and customs clearance, etc.
  • Regularly visit and oversee the day to day operations at North America in-country 3PLs
  • Additional duties as may be assigned from time to time


Here’s What You’ll Need (Minimum Qualifications)

  • Education: BS/BA degree in supply chain / logistics, engineering, or management/business administration
  • Experience: 8-10 years (BS) or 5-8 years (MS) in various Distribution/Logistics functions and Supply Chain


Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • High sense of ownership and curious about the details to fully understand the end to end processes
  • Customer centric mindset and how to deliver the best customer experience
  • Experience of logistics software (transport management system, visibility tools)
  • Strong preference towards Pharmaceutical or Biotech finished product distribution experience. Experience working in a cGMP and cGDP environment with a good understanding of the Pharma industry & Supply Chain
  • Experience with Cold Chain Transportation Products is a strong preference
  • Working knowledge of GDP and relevant guidelines and regulations
  • Experience in SAP or related ERP system is required
  • APICS certification (Certified Supply Chain Professional (CSCP) or Certified Logistics, Transportation, and Distribution (CLTD)) is a plus
  • Well organized – a natural ability to be organized in how you think, communicate and conduct your work
  • Demonstrate a strong and independent work ethic that sees tasks to completion.
  • You drive for results and demonstrate the ability to develop solutions. You love what you do, and it shows
  • Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written) to effectively collaborate and communicate with senior CMC Management in a dynamic, cross-functional matrix environment – you are outgoing, communicative, and seek to build relationships on a daily basis
  • Ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced environment
  • A curious mindset that allows you to constantly learn and challenge the status quo
