Van Wagner’s primary business unit is Van Wagner Sports & Entertainment, LLC, a leading sports marketing and media sales organization. We offer a range of products and services from TV-visible sports signage and sponsorships to promotional and media property consulting and video and production services. We are seeking a Staff Accountant with experience to join our dynamic, growth-oriented company.


Position Summary:

We are looking for a responsible, detail-oriented, and driven accounting professional who will play a key role in performing all major accounting, reporting, and business support functions for the company’s growing collegiate sports marketing division of VWS. Each Collegiate property is managed as its own business and the Staff accountant will have full end-to-end accounting, reporting, and business support responsibility over a portfolio of collegiate properties. Specific responsibilities will include detailed General Ledger Accounting and performance tracking, month-end close and reporting, Revenue, Expense, and Balance Sheet Reconciliations; Accounts payable; Billing and Accounts Receivable tracking, Monthly/quarterly reporting, Sponsor contract management and Property settlements. The Collegiate staff accountant will interact regularly with property sales and operating managers as well as the Collegiate Corporate executive team. This role will report directly to the Company’s VWS Controller and will work closely with two other accountants supporting the collegiate business and with other corporate accounting staff.


Main Responsibilities:

  1. Detailed tracking and monitoring of all contracted revenues, costs, and accruals; coordinated monthly process flows to facilitate proper accounting and supporting documentation.
  2. Perform reviews of Deal Forms and Contracts and apply / track contracted revenue recognition and customer billings/collections.
  3. Responsible for general ledger accounting function and monthly/quarterly closes for Collegiate properties, including (i) recording of all accounting entries/maintaining general ledger; (ii) preparation/support of balance sheet reconciliations/analyses.
  4. Provide financial management reporting and variance analyses including, actual results versus budget and prior year for internal management reporting and for fiscal year reporting to the collegiate properties.
  5. Strong collaboration with Operations on business activities and processes. Key support person to the business and accounting team, including issues investigation and resolution.
  6. Perform Expense analysis and accounts payable function for the collegiate properties, including (i) processing of vendor invoices using MAS500 software (soon to be Microsoft Dynamics BC365); compilation and allocation of expenses extracted from Concur, the Company’s Travel and Expense Reporting system; (iii) filing and maintenance of A/P records; and (iv) expense tracking for calculating property settlements.
  7. Responsible for Accounts Receivable function for the Collegiate properties, including (i) processing of sponsor invoices (ii) tracking of collections by the sponsor, and (iii) AR reporting and collaboration with property personnel.
  8. Maintain Monthly Settlement Files and reporting for Collegiate properties, including (i) Settlement / Revenue Share accounting according to contractual deal terms; (ii) tracking of sponsor cash/trade revenues and amounts collected/ outstanding; (iii) maintenance of monthly P&L reporting; and (iv) weekly reporting of new executed sales contracts.
  9. Support external audit requirements of collegiate properties.


Additional Requirements:

  • College degree in Accounting
  • Advanced in Microsoft Excel
  • Must be proficient (3-5 years experience) working in a general ledger accounting system and interfacing modules (AR, AP) with monthly closing requirements– working knowledge of Microsoft Dynamics BC365 accounting system is preferred
  • Working knowledge of Hyperion HFM, a plus
  • Knowledge of Collegiate Sports a plus
  • All Van Wagner employees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 and if hired, present proof of vaccination.
