Remember that time someone said something pretty awful and no one said anything? Or how about that time you spent 20 minutes in a meeting catching up with your colleagues? Or how about when you received that welcome gift from your manager in the mail? All of those tell you something about the culture of that workplace. So can culture change? People determine culture. And the truth is that culture is shifting all the time because a core part of it is what is acceptable. As the people who make up an organization or community shift, so does the culture, even if in small ways. Major cultural shifts happen as a result of intentional efforts to BE and DO differently. It can be a massive change effort an organization does for strategic business reasons. It could be an intentional decision a manager makes to shift dynamics on their team. So, yes, you can change culture. But it's not easy. And it's not quick.
