“We are fortunate to have an engaged workforce who want to share their passion and expertise with students of all ages,” said Gabe Mounce, director of the AFRL Tech Engagement Office. This year's New Mexico Excellence in STEM - or STEMY awards - hosted by our own Tech Engagement Office, saw a number of folks honored who have either taken part in or led STEM related outreach within the state. The Muslim Association Puget Sound (MAPS) and Skillspire is proud to announce the launch of the Pathway to Tech (PAT) Project, a groundbreaking initiative aimed at fostering opportunities in STEM careers and technical education. With a generous funding request of $850,000, the PAT Project is set to bridge the gap between underrepresented communities and the burgeoning tech industry. In collaboration with Congressional sponsor, Senator Patty Murray, the PAT Project seeks to equip individuals with the necessary skills and knowledge to thrive in technology-driven fields. This initiative represents a significant step towards inclusive excellence in STEM education, ensuring that opportunities for advancement are accessible to all. Empowering Future Technology Leaders The PAT Project is designed to address the critical shortage of skilled professionals in the tech industry by providing comprehensive education and career support. Through targeted training programs and hands-on learning experiences, participants will gain invaluable insights into the ever-evolving landscape of technology. Key components of the project include: · Assessment and Enrollment: 152 students will be selected to participate in Skillspire’s IT and Technology certification courses. · Tuition Assistance and Support: Participants will receive financial support to cover majority of tuition costs, ensuring that financial barriers do not hinder their educational pursuits. · Career Placement Assistance: Upon completion of the program, participants are anticipated to successfully transition into tech roles, with full support provided for career placement and advancement. A Commitment to Diversity and Inclusion The PAT Project underscores MAPS’s and Skillspire's commitment to promoting diversity and inclusion within the tech sector. By creating pathways for underrepresented individuals to enter and excel in STEM careers, the initiative aims to cultivate a more diverse and innovative workforce. Special thanks to Senator Patty Murray, Dr. Marjan D., Megan Utemei for all their help and support! https://lnkd.in/eJvdrP4T #techeducation #codingbootcamp #underservedcommunities #communityproject

If ever there was an organisation that really reflected the core principals of inclusivity and opportunity for young people to engage with STEM it is SciFest CLG The volunteerism of its founder Sheila Porter is nothing short of outstanding. An organisation that has such impactful outreach but is reliant on volunteerism is worrying. Sponsors need to get on board to maintain these opportunities for students. Unlike other science STEM organisations in Ireland, there is no fee, there is no elimination after work has begun, there is a chance for Science communication at all levels for all students. There is an evidenced pathway to success for students. What I saw this year at Regeneron ISEF, the worlds most prestigious pre collliagiate science fair, was the world esteem that SciFest CLG is held in. For the organisation to do so much with so little, to be held in the regard it is, is an achievement of note for Ireland. To put our students on a world stage, and to achieve success, is testament to a model that supports our growing STEM achievements, and yet we are a very small country. This little country can compete with the funded nations, imagine what we could achieve with effective financing!! SciFest 2024 Sees an Unprecedented Number of Entries! 2024 has been a record-breaking year for SciFest, with over 15,439 second-level students presenting their projects. This extraordinary 29% increase in participation not only highlights the enthusiasm of the students but also the dedication of our teachers to promoting STEM in their schools. This incredible growth in participation also reflects SciFest's ongoing commitment to lowering barriers and providing more opportunities for schools with fewer resources. By actively promoting participation in STEM among underrepresented groups, SciFest continues to ensure that every student no matter their background, ability, gender or circumstance has the opportunity to explore and excel in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Congratulations to the 15,439 students who participated in SciFest this year! SciFest doesn't just happen in schools, it is a co-ordinated effort by teachers, SNAs, school management teams, school administration, and students! Without their dedication and commitment, SciFest would not be possible. SciFest was created in 2006 to encourage an interest in, and love of, the STEM subjects. SciFest is implemented at four distinct levels: local (SciFest@School), regional (SciFest@College), national (SciFest National Final) and international. Being locally and regionally based, open to all and free to enter, SciFest is uniquely diverse, inclusive, and accessible. It makes it possible for every young person, whatever their background, circumstance, or intellectual ability, to experience the excitement of participating in a STEM fair. This participation encourages independent learning, builds self-confidence, and introduces students to the myriad of opportunities available in STEM. We are busy planning SciFest 2025. We invite sponsors to join us in supporting the next generation of innovators. To learn more about sponsorship opportunities and to view our current partners and sponsors, please get in touch! 🌐 The search for talent in the field of HPC has never been easy, but how can we inspire the next generation to join in? A growing competition is working to solve just that problem! 💡 Our Women in High Performance Computing (WHPC) and Alces Flight Ltd collaboration - Move the Needle - recently sat down with Dan Olds of Intersect360 Research to discuss how we can expand education and inspiration in supercomputing. Four years ago, Dan had an idea which evolved into the Winter Classic Invitational Student Cluster Competition (aka "The Winter Classic"). This competition offers talented individuals from historically black and Hispanic colleges in the USA the chance to work with some of the most powerful supercomputers in the world! Dan, a long-time student cluster competition champion, aimed to leverage and transform his knowledge to inspire the next generation of HPC. With the support of Intersect360 Research, community leaders, and sponsors, the Winter Classic has evolved into one of the most exciting, equitable, and impactful competitions in HPC to date. I was particularly delighted by Dan's choices in challenge design, focusing on providing students with a complete experience, regardless of whether they stay within HPC or not! Read all about his take on using knowledge to increase diversity and inclusion here: https://lnkd.in/ed3TJdN8 And here's the thrilling part - there's a Part TWO coming! Addison Snell has kindly agreed to share more about how the Winter Classic continues to develop and make a positive impact on education and our community! Massive thanks to Dan for his time, and to Dominik Wojtak, who brilliantly edited our conversation into a magnificent piece of writing. #HPC #supercomputing #diversity #inclusion #blackintech #hispanicintech #nextgentech #education #outreach #students #competition #computerscience 🚀

Many companies are now stepping up to offer scholarships, mentorship programs, and workshops, all geared towards empowering young girls to dive into the world of computer science and technology. Thanks to incredible educational initiatives, impactful awareness campaigns, and the support of nurturing communities, we've seen a fantastic uptick in the number of girls choosing to pursue computer science at the university level over the past few decades. But here's the thing: despite these encouraging strides, the representation of women in computer science and technology fields still isn't where it should be. 🤔 As a woman in Tech, I've had some eye-opening conversations with fellow professionals in software development and technology. I've noticed a curious trend: many of us tend to steer our daughters towards interests like music, dance, painting, and the arts in general. 🎨🎶 But here's a thought-provoking question: why aren't we, as #womenintech, making technology a primary focus in our daughters' lives from an early age? Let's spark those tech passions early and watch them soar! 💻✨
