Nice job moderating Lauren Pesa! Great to hear from the panelists on their strategies for decarbonization across commercial, residential, and logistics real estate. A few salient takeaways from this session: 💓 - Sustainability efforts, just like all business initiatives, are fundamentally human-driven and require understanding and responding to people's hopes and fears, incentives, motivations, and behaviors. 💲 - Decarbonization is not just the right thing to do, but is also the profitable thing to do, not just in energy savings, but also operational and maintenance costs. Important for all stakeholders (incl. tenants, owners, vendors) to benefit, and to communicate those benefits to all. 🤓 - Especially interesting to hear from Brookfield Properties about the importance of data to drive strategy, and their use of Willow to get insights from across such a large portfolio of RE assets, from the granular (irregularities in specific pieces of HVAC hardware) to the macro level (real-time grid energy and pricing). Kudos! #ClimateWeek2023 #ClimateWeekNYC #CREtech #ClimateDay #sustainability #realestate #smartbuildings #grid #electrification #digitaltwins #future
Climate Week Day 4 🌎: Today has been awesome 👏🏽 I hosted a panel at #cretechnewyork2023 with the most innovative sustainability minds in real estate - Lauren Moss from Vornado Realty Trust, Michael Daschle from Brookfield Properties, Sydney Mainster from The Durst Organization, and Suzanne Fallender from Prologis. I’m in awe of all of them and what they’ve done to advance sustainability AND achieve great business outcomes for their organizations. Real estate friends: if you’re new to your sustainability journey and looking to find a North ⭐️, I’d look no further than these panelists! #climateweek2023 #deloitte

To mark Earth Day 🌍, our co-founder and MD David Brookes wrote about some of his favourite game-changing businesses doing their bit to counteract the effects of #climatechange. We think it's vital to shine a spotlight on the meaningful action that’s being taken to promote sustainability and help people live more environmentally-conscious lives. Read the blog featuring Jeff Dewing, OnePlan, Amazon, and Pollution Solution here - https://lnkd.in/eCXZNsmR
It's great to see Earth Day celebrations today, but it feels bittersweet given the recent news about the Scottish Government's plan to “ditch their climate change target” of reducing greenhouse gases by 75% by 2030. While there should be progression, it sadly seems like its one step forward and two steps back when it comes to meaningful action to reverse climate change. This topic is a huge passion of mine. At @Thinking Hat, we actively look to work with clients who are doing brilliant things in the sustainability and climate consciousness space. This Earth Day, I wanted to highlight some of the incredible campaigns we’ve had the privilege of working on for a few of our game-changing clients: Jeff Dewing, OnePlan, Amazon, and Pollution Solution.

🌎 We currently see lots of European companies taking action on calculating and sharing sustainability data with their customers. An interesting observation is that a big portion of them are actually companies that are not neccessarily required to report towards CSRD legislation themselves, but are part of the value chains of big companies that need to report towards CSRD or have set SBTi targets. Big drivers within SME companies that are currently taking action are: ✅ They know that it's coming their way and want to proactively have their data ready for when the moment comes that their biggest customer asks for it. ✅ They've already received questionnaires from some of their customers, or are obliged to fill in EcoVadis or other platforms. ✅ They don't have the time / resources themselves to calculate their CO2 footprint, however, they want to have an initial idea on their baseline emissions (the current status) in order to be able to quantify the climate efforts they're taking anyways (e.g. solar panels, electric vehicles, ...). That way they can prove towards customers 1) that they're taking actions and 2) that these actions have a quantifiable impact on their own CO2 footprint, resulting in a decreasing CO2 footprint for their customers as well. ⌛ Time is ticking: most SMEs want to have their Scope 1, 2 and 3 data available by the end of 2024, in order to be ready when required by their biggest customers, which will be in 2025 at latest.

Yet, when you look at the numbers, it’s one of the biggest job creation and economic value creation opportunities, certainly in the rest of my lifetime. Why should businesses invest in Carbon Removal technologies? As the climate crisis continues to unfold, it's become increasingly clear that reducing emissions alone won't be enough. The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) underscores that removing carbon from the atmosphere is a crucial component of any comprehensive climate strategy. Carbon Removal technologies offer a proactive way for companies to tackle their unavoidable and historical emissions. They don't just offset but also remove previously emitted CO2, which contributes to achieving net-zero targets and making real progress towards reversing climate change. Investing in these technologies sends a powerful message: businesses are taking responsibility for their environmental footprint. It also positions them at the forefront of climate leadership, enhancing corporate reputation and fostering goodwill among customers, stakeholders, and employees. At Klimate.co, we’re dedicated to accelerating the adoption of Carbon Removal technologies. If your business is ready to take the next step in your sustainability journey, reach out to discuss how we can work together towards a more positive future. #ClimateAction #CarbonRemoval #Sustainability #NetZero
