“Finding Your People”  This concept really hit me when my daughter said to me, “Dad, I have found my people”. She had earned an undergraduate degree and was pursuing a Masters in Interactive Entertainment (video games) at a top program in Orlando. She had been in the program for a couple of weeks when I called so see how things were going. It was one of the most profound statements about organizational “fit” that I had ever heard. And if you’re wondering if this goes against diversity, it does not. We can optimize diversity while at the same time attracting people with common values and positive interpersonal engagement styles. Her program, like the industry, was male dominated – so there was little gender diversity, yet she had found her people. Finding your people at work is a key component to happiness and fulfillment in both your professional and personal lives – because of course, they’re interconnected.  Building meaningful connections with colleagues fosters a supportive and positive work environment. It can enhance collaboration, creativity, and productivity. These connections provide emotional support, reducing stress and increasing job satisfaction. Ultimately, the support and camaraderie from finding your community at work will contribute to a fulfilling and successful career journey.
