Presidential Debate Tonight President Joe Biden and former President Donald Trump are scheduled to debate tonight at 9 pm ET on CNN. Tune in here: https://lnkd.in/gAfXCdA3 Tonight marks the first general election debate of 2024, one of two such planned debates, with the second (hosted by ABC) scheduled for September. Tonight is also the first debate since the 1980s not organized by the nonpartisan Commission on Presidential Debates. Instead, the presumptive Republican and Democratic nominees have coordinated directly with news outlets on the dates and terms, agreeing to forgo opening statements, debate notes, and an audience. There will be a mute button to cut candidates' microphones off after their allotted response time expires. The debate—hosted by moderators Jake Tapper and Dana Bash—comes as recent polls predict a tight race, with Trump leading by 1%-2% nationally. Trump is currently leading in seven key swing state polls by 1%-5%.

It looks like President Biden may back out of live debates, a tradition in place since 1976. What do you think his excuse will be? ABC News, CBS News, CNN Fox News Media, PBS, NBC News, NPR, The Associated Press, C-SPAN, NewsNation, Univision, USA TODAY, The Epoch Times and Newsmax Media, Inc. have all recently talked about both Trump and Biden needing to commit to these debates. The first debate is scheduled for Sept. 16 at Texas State University in San Marcos, followed on Oct. 1 at Virginia State University in Petersburg and Oct. 9 at the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, but some would’ve already voted by mail at these points, so there’s a request from the Trump Campaign to move them up, before anyone votes by mail. I think that it shows disrespect to the citizen voters, to not be willing to show up for debates. If someone can’t manage this, they can’t manage the Executive Branch and command our military. How important do you think it is that the Democrat and Republican Presidential nominees to debate live? #election2024 #biden #trump #joebiden #donaldtrump #gop #dnc #democrat #republican #liberal #conservative #debate #thoughts #news #trending #trendingnews #election #newsthisweek

In a presidential election year, we understand the value of segmenting audiences based on key political measures. MRI-Simmons users can answer four crucial questions about their target's political attitudes & behaviors: 🇺🇸 What is their political affiliation? ↔ What is their political outlook? 📋 Are they registered to vote? 🗳 How frequently do they vote in national, state, or local contests? Check out the blog to learn more about each of these measures and how to use them when crafting a media strategy: https://lnkd.in/eM3HRcf3 #2024election #voters #mediabuying #campaignstrategy

🔥 House Democrats are pulling out all the stops to secure a majority in the upcoming elections. House Majority PAC, the super PAC linked to Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, has reserved a staggering $146 million for TV ads and $40 million for digital advertising in almost 60 media markets across the country. With only four more seats needed to win big, House Democrats are leaving no stone unturned in their efforts to come out on top. Media bias is really difficult to prove. Okay, so this news story/article/debate was biased in X direction but another one was biased in Y direction. Together the media give voice to everybody over time, right? So what’s the big deal? Proving bias requires controlling all variables, which is impossible. Moreover, subtle bias is much more difficult to pinpoint than mere slanting. In this paper I dig into the archives and set out to do both in comparing two almost identical TV election debate openings, one of them with Helle Thorning-Schmidt as a debater running for office in Denmark https://lnkd.in/dtDuWWeB

Imagine going to the polls to vote on election day, and instead of receiving a government-printed ballot with directions to your own (indoor) private voting booth, you instead wait in line outside, your name gets called in front of everyone, and you yell out your political choices for all to hear. This was the practice in a number of states in the 19th century. Professor Don DeBats and I discuss the history of "viva voce" ("by voice") voting in America, where and why it prospered, why it eventually disappeared, and how it shapes our elections today. https://lnkd.in/gp2dMada https://lnkd.in/gbs5b7Xx
