I happen to be of the belief that Linkedin is a place best suited for posting matters of professional interest, and is not a place for politics or personal statements. But I feel that I must share this shocking story about a survey regarding antisemitism in the workplace. It is abhorrent and unacceptable that as many as a quarter of hiring managers feel that it is "acceptable" to discriminate against Jews in hiring, and that other antisemitic attitudes prevail in even higher prevalence in the American workplace. Antisemitism is a form of Racism; and as President Biden stated, there is no place for it in our culture. It must be obliterated from our minds and our actions. And lest somebody reading this should still harbor the belief that there is a difference between anti-Jewish prejudice and hatred and other forms of discrimination, think of the millions of gays, Roma and other "undesirables" who met the same fate as Jews under the Nazis.
So what can be done here? I would suggest that everybody reading this post should hold the HR departments in their companies and institutions accountable for ALL forms of "Otherism" in hiring and personnel decisions. The responsibility belongs to all of us. As MLK famously said, "I look forward to the day when [people are...] judged not by the color of their skin (or anybody's presumption of whether or not they belong to a "privileged" or a "disadvantaged" group) but by the strength of their character." And, I might add, with respect to hiring and personnel decisions, their ability to contribute to the effort and the greater good.
