Im giving everyone at Offsite the week off from July 1-5. (And why the heck would I do that?!)
1) we already have off July 4, and…
2) there is less to do on July 3 and 5 anyways because our partners, clients, and vendors are OOO or slower to respond
But more importantly…
3) we have unlimited PTO and are remote-first, but if I don’t give people “cover” or mandates to take a certain minimum number of days off…
4) I find the team actually works *too hard* and doesn’t take time to recover in order to stay engaged for years to come (I’m guilty of this, too!)
5) I’m inspired by the leading remote-first companies like 15Five, Buffer, and PwC who schedule week long breaks for the team…
So I wanted to try doing the same!
Now, I shared this new “perk” last minute with the team, so I think a few of us might log in for a task here or there…
But I’m excited for the experiment, and if it goes well we plan to do these once or twice per year!
(I’m thinking July 4th week and the last week of the year.)
What do you think?
Should more employers test out a company-wide “week off” or am I insane?
Comment below…
And repost to inspire other founders/CEOs to consider things like weeks off, minimum days off, unlimited PTO, remote and hybrid work, and of course…offsites!
