I am pleased to have contributed to the #EPGenderEqualityWeek. The agenda item allowed highlighting the impact of conflict on women and the importance of women's contribution to conflict resolution and sustainable peace, in line with the #UN resolution 1325 on #Women, #Peace and #Security. The topic of focus this year was "Gender Equality: What's next?" - There is progress in this policy field and room for shaping what needs to be done because we are all equal today and always.

What is the percentage of streets in Europe named after men? What is the percentage of US tax forms in which men are put first? What is the percentage of people worldwide harboring a bias against #gender equality? Hint: it is the same percentage. I am just coming to the end of re-reading a great book that initially seeks to investigate the origins of inequality. Through a long journey considering the Neolithic onwards one of the closing conclusions is the framing of a potentially more interesting question of history, this being “is there a positive correlation between what is usually called ‘gender equality’ (which might be termed, simply, ‘women’s freedom’) and the degree of innovation in a given society?” What a wonderful question. And a reminder to us working in placemaking (and beyond) to ensure the places we help develop respond to how women use and interact with them, which can often be different to men. (The Dawn of Everything, Book by David Graeber and David Wengrow)
