The City of Detroit has been home to my family since my father first migrated here in 1963. This city gave my family an opportunity to prosper and find our purpose and our community. As many of you know, 90% of Detroit schools do not have the resources they need to provide a high quality education to our city’s children. The crisis in Detroit schools doesn’t stem from a lack of effort, it stems from a lack of equity and financial support. The Detroit Children's Fund sole mission is to ensure that every child in Detroit receives a great education. Along with our friends KC Crain & Ashley Crain, Rina and I are pleased to serve as Co-Chairs to the 7th Annual Detroit Children's Fund Golf Outing on September 11th, 2023 at Oakland Hills Country Club. Thank you to Tech Untied @ United Way for Southeastern Michigan and Systems Technology Group, Inc. (STG), Comerica Bank Rocket Companies BorgWarner Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan General Motors Stellantis DTE Energy Ally and the 180+ volunteers that helped support the STEM Possible event at the Michigan Science Center last week. This event brought 650+ students (4th and 5th grade) from Hazel Park, River Rouge, Pontiac, Southfield, and Detroit school districts. These energetic students spent the day engaging in various curated STEM activities. Their curiosity, creativity, and innovative minds were on display. It’s amazing the impact Michigan’s Digital and Technology Community can have on our K-12 students when we collaborate and partner together!
