New US-EU Privacy Framework Just The Start Of A Journey

The US and EU have come to an understanding on a framework to replace the Safe Harbor Agreement that was struck down last year by the European Courts. The new agreement is called Privacy Shield.

However, there are several things that need to happen before this is a done deal, including getting the 28 EU Data Protection Authorities to agree that the US is serious about protecting EU citizens' data and getting the US Government to pass some new laws and administrative procedures.  This COULD be much more of a challenge than getting the diplomats and bureaucrats to agree to a framework.  Stay tuned - this is not a done deal.
