  • Exciting changes are underway at Maplewood! Last week, our crews removed gutters and prepped fascia boards for refurbishment. This week, roofers started removing the old roof and commencing essential roofing repairs. Crews will install composition shingles made from asphalt and upcycled rubber later this week. These shingles expand and contract with temperature changes, making them more durable. The upcycled rubber and plastic polymers come from used tires and plastic bags, enhancing shingle strength and durability while diverting waste from landfills. Automobile tires, engineered for all-weather performance, contribute their advanced technology to our shingles, improving their resilience and longevity. A well-maintained roof is crucial for the safety and longevity of our school buildings. It protects against the elements, prevents leaks, and ensures a healthy learning environment for our students and staff. Thanks to your support and taxpayer investment in the 2024 Capital Levy, we are making critical repairs to Maplewood's roof and cupolas, ensuring our historic building remains safe and beautiful for years. #ThankYouVoters #FoundationsForOurFuture

  • DEADLINE EXTENSION! (Please share our post with your network) Participate in creating public funding decisions – volunteer on our Bond Advisory Committee! The Bond Advisory Committee wants you to help guide critical public school facility funding and future bond initiatives this fall. We’re calling on parents, students, businesses, and community members—including homeowners without children currently attending our schools to volunteer! Bonds are essential for building projects and require a 60% plus one voter approval rating. Help us review the facts and determine if our school facilities need upgrades and should be put to a public vote. These choices directly impact the quality and safety of our school buildings and could potentially affect property taxes for thousands of Puyallup and Edgewood homeowners. Apply by August 23, 2024. • Thanks to the efforts of the Meeker PTA, who raised over $80,000 last year, we are helping to replace half of our playground equipment with modern structures. This project highlights the partnership between parents, the district, and our community, which is committed to enhancing our children's outdoor learning experiences. With voter-approved capital levy funds supporting upgrades to aging infrastructure, the Capital Projects team is overseeing the installation of stormwater drains, a new track, restriping hard courts, and adding accessible ground cover. These improvements aim to create a safe, inclusive environment for all our students. Join us in celebrating this transformation and supporting our children's educational journey at Meeker Elementary School! • Improvements are underway at Rogers Aquatic Center! Our Capital Projects team began work to enhance facility safety and cleanliness. Last week, crews started modernizing gutters and installing new tiles along the pool deck. These upgrades aim to improve water management by efficiently draining excess water, which will help create a safer environment, especially for young swimmers. Additionally, these enhancements will contribute to better hygiene standards around the pool area, reducing the risk of slips and falls. The new tile and gutter installations also promise to give the pool a fresh, modern appearance, enhancing its appeal to our community. As always, we appreciate your support and patience during these improvements. The pool will be open for summer swim lessons and open family swim starting on July 1st. #FoundationsForOurFuture #PuyallupSD

  • Yesterday, Monday, June 17, the Puyallup School Board approved the School Capacity and Utilization Task Force (SCUT) recommendations to address enrollment challenges until new schools are built. Initiated in Spring 2023 with input from students, staff, families, and community members, the SCUT report includes strategies like managing student waivers, adjusting school boundaries, and optimizing program management. Specific solutions are tailored to each school, such as adding portable classrooms at Rogers High School in the 2025-26 school year and managing waivers and program relocation between Northwood and Mt. View Elementary. The recommendations include establishing a Bond Advisory Committee to focus on new constructions and facility modernization recommendations. We thank the task force members who dedicated over 28 hours to developing these recommendations.  Read the full report on the Task Force on our website at HTTP://www.puyallupsd.org/SCUT To learn more about the Bond Advisory Committee and apply, visit our website at https://lnkd.in/gSxc4JUE #FoundationsForOurFuture #PuyallupSD
