“Good design is like a refrigerator—when it works, no one notices, but when it doesn’t, it sure stinks.” –Irene Au

Don Norman, the renowned author of “The Design of Everyday Things,” recently posted a video discussing the significance of design, which is often overlooked. As designers, we can all relate to the struggle of convincing clients about the value of the time spent on discovery. The process of educating clients can be so time-consuming that it often leads to delay which supports the misconception that it’s a waste of time. This results in the benefits of solid design thinking being neglected during the development process. I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had to say, “Design is not art; it’s not about making things pretty!!” The video is well worth a five-minute watch. Enjoy!
