The USAID Economic Governance Activity collaborated with the Institute of National Planning (INP)and the School of International and Public Affairs (SIPA) at Columbia University to host INP's 2024 annual conference. At this year's conference, which focused on "Health and Sustainable Development," local and international scholars, policymakers, academics, researchers, and specialists shared research and discussed strategies to promote better health outcomes within the broader sustainable development framework. The conference included in-depth sessions on governance of the health sector, health sector financing and investment, and improving the performance of Egypt's healthcare system. USAID Mission Director, Sean Jones, was joined by the Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Dr. Hala El Said, and the Minister of Health, Prof. Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, in addressing conference participants during the opening ceremony. Innovation meets inspiration at Vodafone's AI Assistive Tools Hackathon! Today marks the final day of this strategic partnership with USAID Economic Governance Activity Information Technology Industry Development Agency, ITIDA Vodafone Egypt @Ataa Charity Fund for Persons With Disabilities Plug and Play Tech Center Plug and Play Africa. The hackathon is the first of its kind in the private sector, designed to motivate innovators to design solutions for a more inclusive workplace for Persons With Disabilities. Over the past 3 days, 20 teams, with participants from Cairo and 6 other governorates, have been neck and neck in a battle of brains to design the best AI-backed solutions and innovations to support PWDs in the workplace, and create a more inclusive environment for all. The hackathon included hours of technical workshops, mentorship sessions, and solution design, making for a jam-packed weekend filled with incredible insights and opportunities. It’s finally LAUNCHED🚀🚀🚀 We are super excited to announce today the launch of “KMT”, the first AI government Chatbot within the civil service in Egypt! The USAID Economic Governance Activity, together with the Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA) headed by His Excellency Dr. Saleh El Sheikh, were honored to host Her Excellency Herro Mustafa Garg- U.S. Ambassador to Egypt, Her Excellency Dr. Hala El Said- Minister of Planning and Economic Development, Mr. Sean Jones- Mission Director of USAID in Egypt,, and Her Excellency Dr. Maya Morsy President of the National Council for Women, as well as several Ministers, heads of missions, Ambassadors and over 200 senior Government representatives, at the official launch of “KMT” today at the premises of CAOA in the New Administrative Capital. “KMT” marks a major milestone in the collaboration between the USAID Economic Governance Activity and the Central Agency for Organization and Administration (CAOA), and another accomplishment along the GoE's journey towards digitalization and improved innovation in public service delivery. “KMT” is the first of its kind G2G service dedicated to addressing any and all questions pertaining to Egypt's Civil Service Law and its Executive Regulations. “KMT” promotes transparency and access to information by providing instant and timely responses around the clock to questions. In its next iteration, “KMT” will be available to the Egyptian public at large. On January 31, 2024, USAID Mission Director, Sean Jones, visited the booth of the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) at the 54th Cairo International Book Fair - the oldest and largest event of its kind in the Arab World since 1969. USAID Economic Governance Activity (EGA) is proud to support the exciting displays at this booth where ACA and the Egyptian Anti-Corruption Academy (EACA) spread awareness on the importance of anti-corruption work, Egypt's new National Anti-Corruption Strategy, and the efforts of ACA and EACA to fight corruption in Egypt. Dr. Mohamed Salama, Director of EACA, and accompanying senior ACA officials, showed Mr. Jones interactive videos of ACA and EACA's work and together they watched as children's author and educator, Myriam Rizkallah, conducted an interactive and fun session for children where they discussed concepts of participation, rule of law, and transparency in an age-appropriate manner. USAID Economic Governance Activity joined forces with the National Council for Women and the National Institute for Governance and Sustainable Development (NIGSD). An event was held on 29 January, 2024, which marks the beginning of a groundbreaking mentorship program tailored for women leaders in Egyptian civil service. The mentor-mentee introductory event and dinner were nothing short of inspiring, bringing together 21 dynamic women leaders from the government with their mentors. Our meticulous matching process ensured the creation of powerful mentor-mentee partnerships. In the vibrant atmosphere of the event, mentees had the incredible opportunity to meet their mentors for the first time. This initiative, preceded by comprehensive preparations, including roundtable discussions, orientation sessions, psychometric assessments, and a mix of in-person and online activities, reflects a collaborative effort to empower women in leadership positions within the civil service. Special thanks are due to all participants of this program who are voluntarily dedicating their time and effort to the success of this initiative. Congratulations to Egypt’s Administrative Control Authority for handing over to the U.S the presidency of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, COSP 10!! In a historical ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia, the Head of the Administratice Control Authority, H.E Amr Adel, handed over the Presidency of the COSP to the United States with the participation of over 100 countries. The conference takes place during the period 11-15 December 2023 where all states parties deliberate and vote on key decisions that would affect the global fight against corruption. Egypt, through the Administrative Control Authority, also organized a side event on the development of Egypt’s new National Anti-Corruption Strategy. During that event, the inclusive process of developing the strategy was highlighted along with Egypt’s novel electronic performance monitoring and management system of the anti-corruption strategy. The side event was well attended by international organizations, thought leaders from around the world, senior government officials and civil society organizations. Another day of insightful discussions at COP28 UAE ! Yesterday, the USAID Economic Governance Activity organized its second side event on “the path towards institutionalizing climate change governance”. Our panelists included Eng. Sherif Abdel Rehim, UNFCCC Focal Point for Egypt, Dr. Khaled Zakaria, EGA Lead Advisor, Eng. Yasser Sherif, Climate Change Governance Expert, Dr. Dalia Nakhla, Environment Policy Expert, and Tawfik El Kheshen, Environmental Governance Technical Advisor. Panelists presented the collaboration between the USAID Economic Governance Activity and the Ministry of Environment in preparing the governance component of the National Climate Change Strategy.
