Usman Nurmagomedov vs. Alexandr Shabliy headlines Bellator San Diego on Sept. 7

Bellator MMA’s Lightweight champion, Usman Nurmagomedov, is set to defend his title in the main event of Bellator San Diego against Alexandr Shabliy in San Diego, Calif., on Sept, 7, 2024. The duo was initially set to headline Bellator Paris last month before an injury forced the champion of the 155-pound showdown.

Nurmagomedov was last seen defeating Brent Primus at Bellator 300, though the result was overturned to a “No Contest” after Nurmagomedov failed a post-fight drug test, leading to a fine and suspension from California State Athletic Commission (CSAC). That said, he was not stripped of the title and is now set for his first taste of action since Oct. 2023.

Shabliy got the nod for his shot at the 155-pound title after defeating Patricky Pitbull at Bellator 301 in the Lightweight Grand Prix semifinal, earning him his fifth straight win under the Bellator banner, all while extending his win streak to nine. Shabliy and Nurmagomedov were unable to conclude the tournament following the sale of the promotion to Professional Fighters League (PFL).

Bellator San Diego will air on Max in the United States and on DAZN in the United Kingdom starting at 7:30 pm ET.
