Biography

  • Andy Grammer is a songwriter and musician based in Los Angeles who rose to recognition when he released his debut self titled LP in 2011.

Andrew Charles Grammer is an American singer/songwriter and record producer originally from California. A relative newcomer to the American music scene, his debut self titled album was released in 2011 however his musical origins can be traced back to his youth where Grammer learnt to play the trumpet, followed by the guitar and piano under the constant encouragement of his father Red Grammer who was a singer/songwriter at the time. At the age of 15 he turned his talents to songwriting, and by 20 he left Binghamton University in his hometown of Chester, New York and returned to the Los Angeles area where he currently lives.

He pursued a degree in Music Industry Studies at the California State University in Northside and with his early interests in music he set about making a name for himself in the industry in which he had studied. He takes his main influences from a mixture of three main genres. The guitar lead music of John Mayer and Jason Mraz; the piano heavy Coldplay, Onerepublic and The Fray and the complex lyrical ability of hip hop artists such as Lauryn Hill, Jay Z and Kayne West.

His beginnings are humble, starting at the very bottom as a street busker before being discovered in 2010 by his manager and signing to S-Curve Records. His debut video to single 'Keep Your Head Up' was featured as iTunes Video of the Week in 2010 and went on to chart within the top 100 of the US Billboard chart, a difficult feat for a new artist. Due to the interest around this release, the debut album topped the US Billboard New Artist Chart. In January Billboard noted Grammer as an artist to watch after the success of his debut, his ever growing fan base and a successful supporting slot for the Plain White T's.

After the release of the album, Grammer earned another prestigious opening slot for Natasha Bedingfield on her Less Is More Tour in June 2011. After a successful promotional campaign and an original release, Grammer released the anticipated first single of his follow up 'Back Home' on March 25, 2014. The album 'Magazines or Novels' charted at #27 on the US charts, a huge gain commercially for the young artist.

  • Andy Grammer

I saw Andy Grammer in a small venue and it was one of the best concerts I've ever been to! There were many chances to meet him after the show and I easily snagged one of the spots. From the moment he jumped onstage, he brought so much energy! Andy talked to the audience a lot and there wasn't a single person in the crowd that wasn't dancing or enjoying themselves. He alternated between new songs and old songs and I really enjoyed that because even if no one knew the words he was encouraging us to dance and have a good time. Everyone seemed to enjoy that. During his older songs that everyone knew, there was a surge of energy and everyone sang along. Within fans, there was a sense of camaraderie. Everyone was super friendly and we ended up talking and messing around with the people surrounding us. It was really nice to see a crowd so willing to be nice to each other. Andy and his musicians were completely in sync and it was great. You could tell they were really enjoying themselves and were enjoying each other's company. They meshed really well and it wasn't just Andy Grammer on stage, it was everyone that made that song great. If you get offered a chance to meet him afterward, PLEASE take it! They had the meet and greet well planned and set up. Something that struck me as unique was the fact that they WANTED us to talk to him. They told us to get his autograph and have a conversation with him. When I got to him, he signed my stuff and actually talked to me! You could tell he actually cared and had an interest in what we fans said to him. It was really refreshing to have an artist pay such attention to their fans. Basically, this was one of the best concerts I've ever been to and he cared so much that I wanted it to never end. If you get a chance to see him... DO IT! I promise you won't regret it!

  • Andy Grammer at House of Blues Chicago: I didn't know what to expect going into this show. I'm a huge fan, but he started selling records off the streets, and he has a very interesting story. I admire him for how much he has accomplished. The show turned out to be amazing. I loved every single song he sang. He did a lot of promotion for his new record, and he sang a lot of songs off the current record too. He did skip one of my favorites which was "You should know better". Other then that he literally sang every single song that I knew and it was amazing. He seemed so down to earth and happy to be on stage. His on stage performance was amazing. He played piano and guitar during the show, and he is very good at doing both. My favorite songs that he sang were 'Miss Me' and 'Keep Your Head Up'. Those are some of my absolute favorites. He brought up some people from the audience on stage too. A girl who was right in front of me passed out she was so excited. The crowd seemed to be a little calmer compared to other shows. The 3 opening acts were very talented, and I got to take a picture with one of them after the show so that was pretty cool. I was very happy to be there, it was one of the best nights I've had in a long time.

  • I wish he could come to Pittsburgh P.A at the Pittsburgh Paints Arena. I would love to meet him. I know a ton of his songs on guitar and I really love Saved My Life and Lease on Life. I can totally relate to him and for She’d Say I can relate to losing one of my family members. I would love to meet him and get a selfie. He was the very first singer I’ve ever listened to and he is so inspiring. If you ( Andy Grammer ) are reading this then I hope you can come to Pittsburgh and I hope to meet you someday. You are my hero. You are my idol and I am so proud that you’re a singer. I hope you are doing well but of course you probably are. I hope you can do a tour and I can meet you. That is my dream and I hope it can come true.

  • All I can say is that he was amazing. Not only did he put on a great performance, but the halftime waters were a hit with me and my friends. He really was way better then he is on CD and it was better then any other concert I've attended. His band made the concert even more fun! The way they got into it made it so fun to watch them play and sing a long! Andy really involved the crowd and made it a once in a life time experience! He had so much fun on stage and it was a great performance that he put on. Not only did it make me love Andy Grammer 500 times more, but I went home and actually pre ordered his new album and bought a ton of his older song. He set the bar high for the next concert I go to for sure.

  • AMAZING show. The sound quality was amazing, Andy was amazing, and his entire team is so nice (from his band members to the behind the scenes staff). I had missed the meet and greet due to traffic, but one of the ladies who works for him made it happen after his performance was done. So thankful for her and the quality customer service! (I had missed Gavin's meet and greet too and his team didn't do anything). I will definitely be seeing Andy in concert again!!!

I would definitely recommend seeing him if you get the chance. Plus his songs are really good. I left the concert feeling great and happy I got the chance to see him and Gavin.

  • I saw Andy Grammer live in New York a couple years ago and he was electric. His positive stage presence and catchy beats made for an incredible experience. It was an outdoor summer show in New York, and he was able to match the energy of the crowd and boost the already ecstatic atmosphere. His songs were just right for a beautiful summer day.
