We enable children from farming communities to access quality education, health, nutrition and social work programmes
About us
The Pebbles Project enables children from farming communities to access quality education programmes and health, nutrition and social work services. Since our inception in 2004, we have positively impacted the lives of thousands of children by partnering with local farms to establish and manage Early Childhood Development and After-School Clubs for farm workers children who either live on the farm or their parents are employed by the farm. Through these education centres, we are able to render our support programmes and services to the children and wider community. Our areas of operation include Stellenbosch, Somerset West, Wellington, Citrusdal, Clanwilliam, Grabouw and the Hemel-en-Aarde Valley in Hermanus.

#TestimonialTuesday Claudia grew up in Stellenbosch. When she was 9 years old, she attended the Pebbles Project After School Club on Bellevue wine farm. She enjoyed the recreational activities that were offered by Pebbles as part of the School Enrichment Programme (SEP), specifically netball. She also enjoyed going on social excursions: “Pebbles always took us places that we had never been before. Visiting the Waterfront really stood out to me, we went out on a boat and it was very exciting.” Claudia didn’t always know what she wanted to be when she grew up. The Pebbles Project Social Workers, did everything they could to support Claudia: “I remember it clearly, after I finished writing my matric exam, the Social Workers came to fetch me and took me to Boland College where they helped me to apply for a Diploma in Assistant Management.” Claudia is grateful for the support she has received from Pebbles: “Pebbles really did a lot for me, especially the Social Work team. They played a big role in my life, because they have helped me to reach great heights, I don’t think I would’ve studied if Pebbles didn’t come into my life.” Claudia graduated in 2020 and obtained two distinctions. She is proud of her qualification: “My family is very proud of me because I am the first one in my family to have come this far.” At age 22, Claudia is completing an internship at one of South Africa’s leading logistics companies: Hillebrand where she works as a Documentation Controller. She enjoys her work, especially liaising with suppliers and managing documentation for international clients. Claudia is delighted to hear that she is an inspiration to others: “There are people who have told me that they want to go back to university to make something of themselves because of what I’ve accomplished.” “Pebbles is an incredible organisation. They change many peoples’ lives. They are always willing to help where they can, they always try their best. I can say without a doubt that Pebbles is an organisation you can truly rely on.”
