Realising the full potential of marginalised and disadvantaged women and girls to access opportunities in STEM fields
About us
TechnoGirl is an innovative programme for girls and young women who show an interest in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Conceptualised in 2004 by founding partner Uweso Consulting in collaboration with UNICEF and the Department of Basic Education. The strategic imperative of the TechnoGirl Programme is to narrow the discrepancy in opportunities that still exist between men and women and impede social and economic transformation.

The Impact of Women in South Africa's Engineering Sector Did you know that women make up nearly 7% of the total number of engineers registered with the ECSA? (Indeed, only 1% of professional certificated engineers and 6% of professional engineers are women). Despite being underrepresented, women are driving innovation and diversity in engineering! #WomenInEngineering #TechnoGirlTrust #Innovation

What an incredible week with TechnoGirlTrust! "It’s been an absolute pleasure watching the TechnoGirls blossom. A huge thank you to the fabulous Lethabo Moshoana for her amazing guidance through the worksheets. Taymar and Zeah found the activities very enjoyable, useful, and interactive. This week, Taymar resonated most with self-esteem topics, while Zeah connected with self-awareness. We even baked apricot and almond biscotti using Givaudan flavors! The girls calculated the percentages for the batch and created a mini documentary of the baking process. It was a fantastic hands-on experience." - Vanessa - IMCD South Africa, Cape Town. Thank you, Vanessa and IMCD Group SouthAfrica, for being a part of this inspiring initiative. We encourage all South African companies to get involved in the TechnoGirl Trust job shadowing programmes and help empower young disadvantaged girls into STEM futures! #TechnoGirlTrust #EmpowerGirls #STEMEducation #JobShadowing #FutureLeaders

TechnoGirl Trust and IMCD: Inspiring Future Scientists with Hands-On Culinary Science: Our #TechnoGirlTrust learners recently had an incredible job shadowing experience at IMCD Group during the June intake. In the lab, they made tomato sauce and plant-based burger patties from scratch! They learned by doing and saw firsthand how science is used in cooking. It was a fun and tasty way to learn! Want to know how your company can host our #TechnoGirl learners? Email us at info@technogirltrust.co.za #EmpoweringGirls #STEMEducation #FutureScientists #WomenInScience

TechnoGirls Make Pizzas at Columbus Stainless: A Quality Training Initiative In an innovative approach to organizational quality training, our TechnoGirls recently participated in a hands-on exercise at Columbus Steel Middleburg, where they made pizzas. This engaging activity was designed to impart crucial lessons about workplace safety, meeting customer expectations, reading and following instructions, and delivering a quality product. These lessons are not only applicable in the workplace but are also valuable for the #TechnoGirls in their daily lives at school. Understanding the importance of safety, the expectations of those they serve, the need to follow instructions carefully, and the pursuit of quality in their work can significantly enhance their academic and personal development. By bringing these insights back to their school environment, a #TechnoGirl can apply what they've learned to improve their performance, collaborate more effectively with peers, and approach their studies with a greater appreciation for quality and precision. This initiative by #ColumbusStainless exemplifies how practical, real-world experiences can enrich educational outcomes and prepare young individuals for future challenges.
