Feeling a bit *at sea* this #MarineMonday? Don’t worry – together with our regional neighbours, we’ve got the sea sorted! Last week Australia hosted its first meeting for senior officials from the Arafura and Timor Seas Ecosystem Action Programme – aka *ATSEA*. ATSEA is a long-standing partnership: 🌏 between Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor Leste and Australia 🌊 for cooperation across boundaries on the marine values and threats in the seas to Australia’s north. At last week’s meeting, officials explored options to: 🗑️ reduce marine and coastal plastic pollution 🛢️ prevent and respond to oil spills 🎣 tackle illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in transboundary areas 🐳 increase resilience of endangered, threatened and protected species and important habitats. We also had a chance to: 🐢 showcase some of our work on protecting marine species from plastic and light pollution 👩🔬 visit the ARC Training Centre for Bioplastics and Biocomposites at The University of Queensland and see its marine plastic pollution research. We share one global ocean. Working in partnership with our neighbours helps us ensure a sustainable, nature positive ocean future for Australia and the world.
