When the title of a link is entirely in LaTeX, e.g. a question named on the front page such as this one, then there is no way to get the link menu (e.g. to copy the url) since the MathJaX menu applies to the whole link.

    $\begingroup$ @KennyTM: I can confirm this on Firefox 3.6. I suggest the workaround that question titles simply shouldn't be entirely in TeX. $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ @Rahul: Yes, one could force some link "stub" into the title upon which one could click. That's one common workaround for problems of this nature. $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 24, 2010 at 16:30

    $\begingroup$ It's not really even a workaround. A properly written title should be in the form of a grammatically complete question, so you shouldn't have all TeX titles in the first place. For example, the linked question ought to be "How can we prove that $\gcd(b^x - 1, b^y - 1, b^ z- 1,…) = b^{\gcd(x, y, z,…)} -1$?". $\endgroup$

  • $\begingroup$ also it may be better if it took \\ the sign to break lines as in regular latex as that rather than just writing it explicitly because then one could use an external latex program to work on posting his question, answer or comment without having to take as much time on the stack exchange site or to keep bumping it up etc. when one does not want to. $\endgroup$

I'll mark this . As long as we support LaTeX in title (which is widely used) and MathJax's context menu, we can't avoid this.

In Firefox, you could turn off "Disable or replace context menus". Then both menus will appear.

  • $\begingroup$ Please read my post more carefully since nothing you wrote abve applies to it. The point is that you can't copy the url from the link on the list of questions since the only menu there is the MathJax menu. Of course I know how to copy a url from the address bar or right-clicking (when available). But I should not have to visit the page first to do that. $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 24, 2010 at 16:26
  • $\begingroup$ Thanks for the FireFox tip, but I often use a variety of browsers and not all have such capabilities afaik. In any case that's really a kludge. It should be fixed correctly. $\endgroup$ Commented Nov 24, 2010 at 16:36

In any case, even if you can't click on the title, you should be able to copy the standard link from the footer menu of the question as well.

    $\begingroup$ That doesn't work for the question page - see my comment to Kenny's answer. $\endgroup$ Commented Dec 5, 2010 at 17:34

I am interpreting the question to mean that you wish to copy the link, even when the title of the MathSE posted question is entirely in latex, with no english words.

My approach is to mouse-right-click immediately to the right of the latex, and choose the inspect menu choice from the pop-up menu.

Hopefully, this opens up an html inspection window, with the corresponding line highlighted. Assuming so, then, keeping the line highlighted, mouse-right-click again, and choose the expand-all menu choice from the pop-up menu.

Then, on the (newly opened) line just below the highlighted line, you should see something like

...href="...

Then, highlight-mouse-right-click the (absolute) url, and select the copy link address menu option from the pop-up window.

Then, you can close the inspection pane, which restores the MathSE questions webpage. Then, simply go to a (new) blank webpage and choose the paste and go option, to navigate to the copied link.
