Product Manager | I Transform ideas💡into Best-Selling Products by applying Product Development best practices | Passionate Problem Solver and Rock Climber 🧗♂️

This is the story of how I transformed from Engineer to Senior Product Manager, and it only took me... 15 years 😉 📊 15+ years in tech and management roles taught me the lessons and key insights, that can help you plan your next career steps! Whether you're an Engineer, Project Manager, or haven't decided yet... These main differences & similarities between the 3 major roles in my career (so far), are a must-read. I will top it up with practical advice on what helped me hop from a technical role to a customer-facing, business-oriented, lead position. I'll start with a break-down of main differences between the roles: 🔧 Systems Engineer Technical focus: Designing and Integrating complex systems Analytical mindset: Solving technical problems Scope: System functionality & performance 🚦 Project Manager Delivery focus: Ensuring successful Project completion Operational mindset: Managing resources, timelines, & budgets Scope: Managing the entire project lifecycle 🚀 Product Manager Strategic focus: Defining product Vision & Roadmap Customer-centric approach: Balancing User Needs & Business Goals Scope: Guiding product development from Market Research to Market Penetration 🔗 What do they all share? ✅ Leadership: Guiding teams towards common goals, W/O formal authority ✅ Effective Communication: Articulating complex ideas to diverse stakeholders ✅ Problem-solving: Addressing challenges creatively and efficiently within various constraints ✅ Collaboration: Working across different teams and finding common ground to achieve organizational goals One denominator stands out: Big Picture View 🌎 I spent a lot of time in Systems Engineering roles - which taught me a lot about solving problems and cross-functional collaboration. Almost immediately I realized that a good Systems Engineer needs to be a Project Manager too - Considering not only what needs to be done and fixed, but also what would it cost, how long would it take, and what's the path to maximizng value Vs. risk. As a Team Leader, I gained the insight that being a domain expert and professional - just isn't enough, by far. Creating and maintaining meaningful relationships, & Navigating organizational diplomacy are key to growing and moving up. Most importantly, from early on, I realized I was interested in the bigger picture I was passionate to know WHY. I craved to know what the end users of the systems I built, really needed, what they wanted, and what would make them go WOW! This became a drive, growing stronger from role to role (my beard grew whiter though) 😅 Soon I realized, that I wanted to grow into a role where I'd be involved in 🌟 Business strategy 🌟 Marketing decisions 🌟 Customer Interactions To make a real impact, a small dent in the universe, if I may be so bold 💫 What is your drive? What makes you hop off your bed in the morning with excitement? By answering this, you will make your first and most significant step towards your true destination.
