I often do this: bring a very diverse group within my org with different levels of seniority, backgrounds, nationalities, and most importantly targets/goals. Then, we make a team and they take all decisions pertaining to the org together by consensus. A key aspect is to earn trust first; if they know you have their backs, they are comfortable to take risks. Do as much as you can to develop their negotiation and effective decision making skills, and then let them be. The sum of all of their strengths will help them accomplish unthinkable goals during the most pressing of times. I believe this effort starts from the moment you identify skills gaps to the moment of selection. If you always hire the same, you’ll always have the same outcome.
