While the City of Elk Grove is preparing to celebrate our 24th “birthday,” some residents have been celebrating birthdays a lot longer. Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen recently joined the Fong family to present a Key to the City to Arthur C. Fong as part of his 100th birthday celebration. Arthur was born in San Francisco on June 16, 1924. He brags that he was one of the founding members of the Flying Eagles, a boys club in San Francisco's Chinatown. After World War II he studied to become a pharmacist and worked at San Francisco’s Children's Hospital (now known as CPMC) where he enjoyed being a compound pharmacist mixing formulas for the Neonatal Department. He has been married to his wife, June, for 66 years. They moved to Elk Grove in 2013 to be closer to their children and grandchildren. Arthur’s dry sense of humor and excitement of finding a good bargain continue to create many memories for his family members.   Congratulations and happy birthday, Arthur! A key to the city is the highest honor the city can bestow on an individual. Find out how to nominate someone to receive a key to the city.  https://lnkd.in/gMFMwWGP

Elk Grove City Manager Jason Behrmann announced today the selection of Christopher Jordan as the City’s next Development Services Director.   The selection of Mr. Jordan concludes a national recruitment process to fill the position that will be vacated when Darren Wilson retires next month.   Mr. Jordan is currently the City’s Director of Strategic Planning and Innovation, a position created in 2018 to advance the City’s strategic initiatives, long-range planning projects, and implement other civic innovations. Mr. Jordan has served as the lead staff on notable projects including a new zoo, approved by the City Council in May, comprehensive General Plan update, the Kammerer Road Urban Design Study, the relocation of the Elk Grove Library, and the Smart City Plan.   “I am humbled and excited to be taking on this new responsibility with the City. Over the years, I've witnessed Elk Grove’s remarkable growth and evolution, and I'm thrilled to have the opportunity to contribute even more to the community's future development and success,” said Jordan.   Mr. Jordan has lived in Elk Grove since 2016 with his wife, Jessica, and their three children, John, Molly, and Henry. Mr. Jordan holds a bachelor’s degree in City and Regional Planning from Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo and holds a certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Mr. Jordan will assume his new role with the City on July 28.   “Christopher is a problem solver, innovator, and admired leader in the organization. I have great confidence in his ability to lead the Development Services Department into the future,” said City Manager Jason Behrmann.   Elk Grove’s Development Services Department promotes safety, livability, and economic vitality through permitting processes, housing programs, zoning administration, and code enforcement. The Department is responsible for nearly all development related activity in Elk Grove including Planning, Housing and Public Services, Building Safety, Development Engineering, and Code Enforcement. The Department operates with a staff of 29 city employees and also acts as the primary liaison to the Elk Grove Planning Commission. In FY 2023-24, the Department processed nearly 500 new multi-family residential units, including 160 affordable housing units, expanded services for residents experiencing homelessness, and closed 98% of code enforcement cases with voluntary compliance.   For more information about the City’s Development Services Department, visit https://lnkd.in/gKJ4Na2M.
