About us
The Denver Art Museum has been a leader in educational programming for more than two decades. The family-friendly approach is fully integrated into the galleries through a unique partnership between curators, designers, and educators for each discipline. A trailblazer in creating innovative opportunities that encourage visitors to interact with the collection, the museum is also known internationally for the way we help our visitors explore art and their own creativity. The DAM is one of the largest art museums between Chicago and the West Coast, with a collection of more than 70,000 works of art divided between nine permanent collections including African, American Indian, Asian, European and American, modern and contemporary, pre-Colombian, photography, Spanish Colonial, and western American art. Our holdings reflect our city and region—and provide invaluable ways for the community to learn about cultures from around the world.

Join us for the 18th Annual Petrie Institute of Western American Art Symposium on Friday, January 26, 10am-5:30pm! This year's topic is "Art and Ambition: Creative Partnerships in the American West." Creativity does not happen in a vacuum: artists are influenced by the places, politics, and people around them. Inspired by Charlie and Nancy Russell’s artistic partnership, a theme featured in the Denver Art Museum’s current exhibition "The Russells in Denver, 1921," the Petrie Institute of Western American Art’s 18th annual symposium highlights examples of dynamic personal and community relationships that enabled and sustained the creation of great western American art. Advance registration is required. Discount for members and Museum Friends. Tickets are available to purchase for in-person or virtual attendance. If you are attending in person at the museum, your registration will include a light breakfast with coffee and tea, a lunch, and after-symposium reception. All registrants will receive a welcome letter and schedule. Doors open at 9am. Hyonjeong (HJ) Kim Han, Joseph de Heer Curator of Asian Art at the Denver Art Museum, traveled to Seoul last month to receive the Sejong Culture Award 세종문화상 (Presidential Award). This is a special recognition from the Korean government for her efforts in the development and dissemination of Hangeul in the United States, and honors only four recipients annually. Hangeul is the Korean alphabet which was created by the Great King Sejong in 1443. She is the first curator to be selected for the award since its inception in 1982.
