NECEC is the premier voice of businesses building a world-class clean energy hub in the Northeast.

About us

NECEC leads the just, equitable and rapid transition to a clean energy future and diverse climate economy. NECEC is the Northeast Clean Energy Council and NECEC Institute. NECEC helps clean energy companies start, scale and succeed with our unique business, innovation and policy leadership. We bring together business leaders and key stakeholders to engage in influential policy discussions and business initiatives while building connections that propel the clean energy industry forward. Our results-oriented team is highly skilled at turning a clear vision into reality and effectively influencing policy to build a world-class clean energy hub in the Northeast. The New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC) was formed in late 2006 when leaders in the Massachusetts’ clean energy industry saw the need for a regional business association to convene clean energy stakeholders dedicated to growing the state and the region’s clean energy economy. In October 2015, reflecting our growing activities in New York State and the rapidly growing community of member companies doing business in New York and across New England, NECEC became the Northeast Clean Energy Council.

Interesting Read 📖 "To understand why 15% of U.S. counties have passed bans on renewable energy — with a 111% increase over the past year — you must understand two fundamental tensions at work right now." --Ayelet Hines is director of community engagement at Tigercomm A recent op-ed by Ayelet Hines highlights two critical tensions: the urgent need to combat climate change and the mixed responses from traditional fossil fuel companies. It is clear that companies must ramp up their political strategies. Renewable energy developers are up against powerful, well-established polluters. To succeed, we must provide political cover for local officials, engage communities with emotionally resonant messaging, and allocate adequate resources for these political battles. It's time for renewable energy companies to invest in robust political strategies to ensure a sustainable future. NECEC, as the largest trade association in the Northeast representing the climate transition, is stepping up to do its part. In the fall, NECEC will launch an effort to fight misinformation, provide facts, promote the benefits of a clean energy economy, and engage stakeholders. We call on our members and the whole ecosystem to join the fight. Read the Piece to learn more. https://lnkd.in/eGfNJyJN #IProtectNature #EcoLeadership #SustainableBusiness #RenewableEnergy #ClimateAction

🌊 NECEC President Urges Action on Offshore Wind In Recent Op-Ed 🌊 In a recent Boston Business Journal op-ed, Joe Curtatone highlights the findings of a new Sierra Club report by Synapse Energy Economics. Offshore wind could save New England $630 million annually in electricity costs while addressing climate change and energy security. As electricity demand is projected to rise 17% over the next decade and fossil fuel plants close, the urgency to transition to renewable energy is clear. Despite challenges, state officials recognize offshore wind's potential to reduce transmission losses and enhance energy security. Gordon van Welie, CEO of ISO New England Inc., stresses the importance of offshore wind for future energy needs. Delays increase costs and erode public trust. We must act now to seize job creation and economic growth opportunities in the green energy sector. State leaders have shown foresight in supporting offshore wind. This summer's procurement will impact the industry's future. Continued focus on cost management and technology advancements can ensure offshore wind remains viable. The stakes are high, and waiting is costly. New England is poised to lead the nation in offshore wind, proving we can achieve great things together. ☀ Faces of the Climate Economy: NECEC Ecosystem Working to Build Sustainable Systems Across the Northeast 🌎  At NECEC, we are committed to driving diversity, equity, inclusion, and justice values (DEIJ) in the climate economy. This week, we're thrilled to continue our "Faces of the Climate Economy," initiative to highlight the people working hard to accelerate the just transition. Every week, we'll shine a spotlight on the remarkable individuals driving innovation and impact across the clean energy and cleantech industries. From visionary entrepreneurs to passionate advocates, we'll showcase the diverse talent shaping our planet's future. Today, we're thrilled to introduce Judy Chang, an urban planner specializing in transportation, infrastructure resiliency, sustainability, and operations. As the Project Director at itselectric, a building-powered curbside EV charging company based in Brooklyn, NY, she leads planning and deployments as the team expands its innovative solution to the lack of – and challenges to quickly implementing – charging infrastructure across the country. Judy manages relationships with property partners, conducts spatial analysis to ensure appropriate and equitable deployments, and works alongside cities as they develop processes to make widespread curbside charging possible in the near future. This work builds on over a decade of experience at the New York City Department of Transportation. When asked what advice she'd give to aspiring innovators, Judy said "Find and stick to people who are curious about and open to new perspectives, and who aren’t deterred by temporary setbacks. Be patient. There’s so much work left to do to combat the effects of climate change, and so much to learn. There’s also so much good momentum to build on, and every contribution matters." NECEC is proud to have passionate and innovative leaders like Judy in our ecosystem. Learn more about Judy and other inspiring climate leaders shaping our future here: https://lnkd.in/emyCkyZE Also, checkout itselectric's AWESOME new video here: https://lnkd.in/eNNZZPnv Together, let's embrace diversity, foster collaboration, and drive meaningful change as we work towards a brighter, more sustainable tomorrow. #WorkforceDevelopment #FacesOfTheClimateEconomy #ClimateAction #Sustainability #DEIJ #CleanEnergy #CleantechLeadership #NECECImpact
