Helping Pennsylvanians transform the world of work – building, linking, working – that’s our PA!
About us
The Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry employs more than 5,000 workers in 200 offices statewide. Established in 1913, the department originally inspected the working conditions in factories around the state. Over time, the department's responsibilities expanded. L&I administers benefits to unemployed individuals, oversees the administration of workers' compensation benefits to individuals with job related injuries, and provides vocational rehabilitation to individuals with disabilities. The department prepares job seekers for the global workforce through employment and job training services for adult, youth, older workers, and dislocated workers. In addition, L&I enforces various laws and safety standards in the workplace and administers the commonwealth's programs for community service by young Pennsylvanians. L&I also promotes economic development and an improved business climate through a variety of initiatives and programs to help Pennsylvania's workforce remain world-class and globally competitive.

WE ARE…happy to be at the PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation Summer Academy for Students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. This week, students toured the Penn State University campus and learned more about campus life. The academy offers an immersive experience, giving students with disabilities the chance to live in a college dorm room with a roommate, eat at the dining hall, participate in team-building activities, and learn more about services offered by OVR and The Office for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (ODHH) throughout PA.

Last week, L&I Secretary Nancy A. Walker visited students working on brightening up the no-parking lines outside of the PA CareerLink® in Sunbury, Northumberland County. The group of high school students are part of L&I’s PA Office of Vocational Rehabilitation MY Work program, a paid summer work experience designed for students with disabilities. This summer, L&I partnered with more than 150 municipalities and nonprofits across the Commonwealth, enabling about 1,000 students to make a meaningful impact in their communities through the MY Work program.
