About the Position: The Coastal and Hydraulics Laboratory (CHL) at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center (ERDC) is seeking a highly qualified candidate with background in Civil, Coastal, or Risk Engineering located in Vicksburg, MS.

Duties

  • Developing and applying innovative large-scale, geomorphic assessment techniques and analyses on regional and project-specific coastal systems
  • Experience and/or willingness to cross interdisciplinary specialties in the areas of coastal and riverine sediment processes, statistics, programming and working with large spatio-temporal datasets, programming and technical writing
  • Using specialized knowledge and skills, works with members of the Coastal Engineering Branch to develop and conduct research on coastal sediment transport, hydrodynamics and beneficial use of dredged material assessment
  • Ability to convey results concisely to federal and local sponsors through written reports and oral communication
  • Interacting with Program Managers, Technical Directors and sponsor organizations to determine existing and future potential coastal engineering and navigation research needs
  • Perform technology transfer of information and developed tools to sponsors and customers at stakeholder meetings, peers and colleagues at workshops, training courses, and national and international conferences

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 10% of the time.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a two-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

This position is covered by the Science and Technology Laboratory Personnel Management Demonstration Project at the DB-0810-02 (equivalent to GS-05-11). In accordance with the Federal Register Vol. 63, No. 57, dated March 25, 1988, Laboratory Demonstration Project employees must have a current average performance score of at least 2.5 or equivalent (fully successful rating) for promotion consideration.
