The most interesting thing in tech: Apple announces that they are integrating AI across their products and, in fact, that they are building OpenAI into Siri. A few macro thoughts on the deal: * I want to know who is paying whom here. Is Apple paying OAI? Or, as with Google and search, is it the other way around? I suspect the former, but this is a big boost to OAI since it makes it---and not Anthropic---the default on a mass device. (It's also a good brand moment for OAI during a rough news period.) * There has been lots of talk about Apple being way behind on AI. Perhaps! But the nice thing about having such a dominant position on such a universal device is that you can catch up very fast. * There was talk a little while ago that Apple might partner with Google to do this work. I'm not surprised they didn't. Google is a genuine competitor for phone sales and you can imagine all kinds of reasons why they wouldn't that dependency.
